Sitting here bored at work reading through threads and this idea jumped in my mind. I think it would be quite interesting to see the types of things people pick up from the grocery store.

Maybe it will also help some people make better choices while shopping!

Who wants to start?!

Usually it is the produce section that gets the most of our business. Romaine and Iceberg lettuce. Red & yellow bell peppers. Leeks and broccoli and cauliflower. Russet potato for wife, sweet potatoe for me. 2 lbs of green beans and 1 lb of aspeargus. Onions, tomatoes and green peppers come from our garden.
5 or 6 bananas, 6 oranges, 3 grapefruits and a 3lb bag of fuji apples.
A 30 carton of eggs, quart of skim milk. 2 lbs of ground turkey, one whole chicken. 4 cans of tuna, one can of salmon. Every other week we will have lean pork & shrimp.
A jar of unsalted peanuts for me and a box of Special K crackers for wife.

That is about our weeks food.

Other things we pick up once or so a month is, tea bags, real mayo, whole grain bread, buns & noodles. Olive & canola oil, maybe a jar of peanut butter. Cream cheese & yogurt..just depends on what the mood strikes.

We pretty much eat natural and healthy here most of the time.

MOst of my cart is fruit and veggies, at least since we've made the healthy changes in our house :) We drink alot of milk, so get 2 jugs each time we go to the store, also usually buy fat free cheese slices (i avoid those now because i like them too much but my other half likes them), low fat cheeses (ricotta, mozza, cheddar, cottage), egg whites, coffee, canned beans/lentils, bread and bagels, and a 24 pack of bottled water.

That's usually all we get from the regular store. I (almost exclusively) buy my meat from costco, where i'll get frozen cod, frozen salmon, frozen chicken breasts, ground turkey (that i portion and freeze). That is the main meats we eat. Used to get ground beef but replaced that with the turkey. I also buy whole wheat pasta, pasta sauce, big boxes of cheerios and vector at costco.

Well, I just came back from the grocery store with low fat mozzerella, a red bell pepper, and tomato sauce because I'm making a personal size pizza out of a whole wheat pita tonight, so that gives you a little idea of what it looks like. :D

I buy carrots almost every time I go on a shopping trip because I eat them like a rabbit, as well as a lot of tomatoes and spinach and apples. I really like whole wheat pitas by Thomas as well because it fulfills the place in my life where white bread used to be for only 140 calories for an entire pita. And Sabra Roasted Red Pepper Humus is <3. I buy lite swiss cheese too but it's a huge package so it lasts a long time. I don't eat a lot of meat so usually when I am having it I go to the grocery store that same day and buy it. The things that I really replenish a lot are fruits and vegetables though because I snack on them all day long.

I have a very bland shopping basket- I like what I eat though even though I am not losing any weight!

Tonight I bought:

3 Bags of frozen green bean
3 bags of apples (different varieties: Pink Lady, Crispin' Pink and Jazz).
2xDiet Lemonade bottles (I know I know I know....!)
Whole rolled jumbo oats in prepared sachets of 30grams each. Nothing added or refined.
Value range of King Prawns.
Chicken peices (100% chicken, nothing added just cut up for me :) )
Black tea.
6x bottles of mineral water (for the gym)
Apple Cider Vinegar.
Sun protection spray.

Thats all folks. Thats my entire diet in a nutshell (maybe not the same quantities).

I pre-plan my weekly meals, and I have a lot of pantry staples, so my shopping cart is usually pretty empty considering it's for 3 people for 1 week... Mainly produce, a package of boneless, skinless chicken breasts, a 1-lb. bag of shrimp, cereal, FF milk, yogurt, bread, and SF goodies. :)
