My parents say i should at least have on good meal a week with additives because i still need other foods for more energy etc... but i think im fine doing what i am doing.. dont you?

Well without knowing the daily combinations and amounts you're eating, I can't really tell you if your diet is balanced or your calorie count as you've basically just listed the food groups.

Butter is fine in moderation although olive or other vegetable oils or nuts on a daily basis would be a better choice to get the proper amount of fat in your diet. Ketchup or pasta sauce is something I also recommend as lycopene is easier for the body to take up from cooked tomatos rather than raw.

I have a very similar diet to what yours appears to be, and have lived with it for 12 months. I have lost 57 pounds, and feel healthier and fitter on it than I have done for years. As long as you try varying the diet, its (in my amateur opinion) the very best possible modern diet. As far as supplements go - thats really up to you. By eating lots of vegetables, fruits, and nuts - you most probably have better nutrition already than most people, but if you really want to 'hedge your bets' - then sure, go for some vitamin supplements - personally, I don't. I hate pills and having to take them as much as living off of processed meals.

the only real concern I would have - is that you aren't getting enough fat in your diet... your body. from all I have read, does need a portion of your calories to come from fats - preferable monounsaturated fats - like those found in olive oil and nuts (i believe)

if you use a program like - you should be able to enter your daily foods and see the protein/fat/carb breakdown to see if you are getting enough of what you need.

Thanks for replying.
I do feel healthier and better about myself since i have been eating so well.. but i have decided to have a LITTLE bit of (good) fats. If that makes sense.. My parents are happer now lol. Also, i have to look at this as a lifestyle change, not just a diet because i want to continue eating good after i have achieved my goal, its not like im not EVER gonna eat ANY junk again in my life right?. ahah.

The nuts and seeds aswell as any fish you consume will give you a good deal of good fats. Understand of course all fats (except TransFATs) are needed by the body. as for REAL butter this is not as bad as people want you to believe. Butter(or Butyric acid) is a Short chain fatty acid which without getting to technical offers some important health Benefits to the body. Their is no harm in using REAL butter on your food occasionally (just don't drown your food with it).

I am vegan, so I completely sympathize with you on the "clean eating." Be sure to have plenty of fruits and vegetables. Frozen veggies are extremely cheap and easy to prepare. Whole wheat pasta is an excellent source of fiber, protein and calories (I know that sounds crazy, but it's hard to get lots of calories in sometimes when you eat clean). Be sure to incorporate some beans--they're extremely filling and although they come in a can, there are usually very few ingredients added to them. I take a supplement everyday, but since you are eating meat, you may not need to. As for cereal, I would go for a high-fiber and high-protein option (Kashi makes some great ones). Good luck!
