what do you reckon to this?

3 miles in 22 mins 20 seconds on a treadmill with 0 incline. Thats what i managed last night after doing all my weights and i was running at about 60-80% of full effort (heavy sweating but breathing was still relativly under controll)

Just woundering how some of you would rate that kinda performance. I'm able to reach a mile and half in 10 mins but want to get to a comfortable 9.30 and carry on to do 3 miles in 20mins

(I can still remember when i strugled to run 1.5 miles in 15mins and even earlier this year i couldn't get under 12mins)

But I've heard that if you're going to be working on a treadmill, you probably want to set the incline at least a little bit so that the machine isn't doing some of the work for you.

No, you're right... without a little incline (1.5 - 2) the treadmill is doing a lot of work for you, all you have to do is keep your legs under you. Basically, you sort of lose the "push" part of running (if that makes sense).

Nonetheless, that's still a decent time. my fastest 5k (~3.11 miles) was 25'36". I'm not much of a runner though, I’m sure there are people that would laugh at that time and probably step on me as they cruise by be.

right o' I'll give it a try next week with a 2.0 incline that should definatly slow me down a bit.

On monday I did a 6 mile run (out doors) that took me 50 mins and I had to take it steady cause i was running down a road with no lights and couldn't see the path (if thats what you could call it). I reckon i could have done it at least 5 mins faster.

I run three miles in 24 minutes, but thats outside where there are various hills as well. I consider it fairly good, as when I started running the same thing took me 30 minutes at least.

When I was in the US Marines the maximum score on the running portion of the physical fitness test was to complete 3 miles in 18 minutes, so I guess that was their estimation of what a top fitness level Marine should be able to do. If I recall correctly the minimum acceptable level was 24 minutes, which also increased with age, like if you were over 30 it went to 26 minutes, over 35 to 28 minutes, over 40 to 30 minutes.

how often do you run or do cardio?

i run on sat, mon and wed, do karate on friday and do full body weight session on tues at the gym and at the end of that weight session i test myself on the treadmill to see how i'm doing. Sat and mon i do a long run (5 miles+) weds usually doesn't last longer than 3 miles.

Its quite differcult to fit anymore in because i work nights and so end up going for a run, going to work to work then going to the gym, which just messes me up.
