Hey guys, new guy here. To cut the story short. I've been overweight my whole life, 25 years old currently. I've tried every possible diet, and always yo-yoed back. A few months ago I decided it's time to put a stop to that. I finally started to educate myself on topics of nutrition in an evidence-based manner. Ive started reading about paleo and intermittent fasting. Ive read that the latter provides some really cool health benefits, longer lifespan in animals, helps with memory, the brain in general, makes you lose weight and also helps with specific biomarkers. So it really looks like a legit thing. Ive been reading about it on Brad Pilon's you guys may know if you've been reading about it, and on Healthy Eating Harbor, where I found about intermittent fasting.

So what do you guys hink about intermittent fasting?

Cheers

I like it. I would just offer that it works best if you really focus on your water intake. Staying properly hydrated will help your metabolism and help suppress your appetite as well. Here's some good stuff about that if you're interested

Thanks for the kind words.

Just a short update for everyone, if you're interested :)
I'm around 20lbs down as of now, feeling really healthy and better! The future holds many great things! :)
Now I've started doing paleo as well, Brad Pilons page, Healthy Eating Harbor and Mark Sissons primal guide are currently the places where I'm getting my sources from if anyone is interested.

I'm basically doing intermittent fasting together with paleo - it works magic :). I will add some resistance training soon I think

Be careful of the intermittent fasting as it can actually cause slowdowns in metabolic performance over the long haul.

The paleo is likely working for you now because it is restricting the crappy processed carbs that we all love to consume. The water intake is critical with high protein eating as protein requires a lot of water for assimilation. So, yeah, drink plenty of water.

The paleo goes well with moderate to intense strength training as that type of training does not require a lot of carbohydrates. If you are doing a lot of cardio, though, you can modify the paleo to include natural forms of carbs like fruits and legumes (consumed prior to and post exercise).

The carbohydrate consumption paradigm is a bit of a mystery. Protein has been shown to provide energy similar to carbohydrates and it can be assumed that you can do fine without the carbs. However, I think it depends on how you train and how active your lifestyle is.

I think balance is best. Any diet is likely to be throwing off balance.
