Weight-Loss What Do You Eat For Lunch?

Hey Everyone!

I'm still rather new at this, so I haven't done to many posts outside of my diary. I'm trying to lose about 20 pounds. Eating is definitely the reason why I gained them, I exercise quite a bit. So I'm trying to change my eating habits.

The one meal that I seem to be the hungriest for and that I have the worst time planning for is lunch. I really don't like frozen food, so that is not an option for me. But I was wondering...what do you all eat for lunch? If you work do you pack your lunch or have you found some healthy alternatives at different places?

My meals are pretty boring, but anyways...

I usually eat 1 or 2 times a day. Generally consisting of;

1 serving of meat (beef, chicken or eggs, usually. We don't buy too much turkey or fish here.)
1 or 2 avocado(s) (Mostly because of Fiber.)
1 or 2 servings of salad. (Either lettuce, celery, or chicory.)
Chia seeds. (Nice source of Fiber. I usually eat from 25 to 50g)

And that's basically it. I rarely use oil, so I just add lemon juice to the salad.
I occasionally add a fruit or another vegetables (I.e: Tomatoes, Carrots), but I don't have too much budget for them, as I try to eat as few carbohydrates as possible.

Now, eating like this, I usually stay around 1000 - 1200 calories, which may not be optimal... There is not much enjoyment from food, either.

Thanks for the replys! For the past couple of days I have also brought left overs. I ate while I worked so I could then go to the library to get away for a bit. The food I have eaten has certainly been healthier!

One of my "rules of the regimen" is to eat only when I'm hungry. I always skip eating at breakfast time, and often skip lunch. I sometimes get slightly hungry as lunch time approaches, around 11:00, but that feeling pretty much drifts away by early afternoon. I will eat lunch when it's convenient. That is typically a spring mix salad with an olive oil/balsamic dressing I make, sometimes with a hard boiled egg or bacon added. Sometimes I may have steamed veggies with butter or simmered in chicken stock. When I cook out in the evening, I sometimes also make a small frittata to heat and eat sometime the next day. Then there's leftovers...

I'm also a big fan of leftovers, and try to plan our meals at home so there's enough left over for work (healthy eating requires good planning!).
Or I'll take a sandwich (pack it with as many veggies as possible: grated carrots, zucchini, peppers are your friend).
If I'm grabbing a convenience lunch, a tin of tuna with some grainy crackers and guacamole + tomato is good, or a vegetable soup and some toast.
If I'm buying lunch, anything that's got some veggies in it is what I'll be choosing.

One more thing: if you find you're ravenous and unable to make a good choice at lunch because you just need to eat something right now, adding in a small morning snack with some healthy fat and protein could help you get through a bit better to make a better choice. I'm thinking full fat yoghurt or a small handful or raw nuts. Nuts in particular are easy to keep at work!
