What do you do between sets?

I noticed today I just pace back and forth in front of whatever I’m using. I got the MP3 cranked and keep an eye on everyone around and my watch for my next set. I feel like a big’ol Lion just pacing. I was worked up today with some heavy benching.

For abs I'm starting to streach my legs between sets.

depends on what I do. Between deadlifts I touch my toes and such to keep my back loose. Lunges I've kicked my ass so much I basically wipe my sweat, drink some water and catch my breath.

Other times I'm adjusting weights to get ready for my next move. I'm constantlly changing weights around.

Drink water, stretch and keep breathing.

And.. depending on what i'm working on, sometimes i'll throw in cardio- like a quickie 5 min walk or run

Personally I walk around a lot, maybe sit a bit. I watch out so I don't flex my back, though. According to Stuart McGill, When you flex your back, the nucleus in your spinal discs starts migrating backwards. And when doing anything that loads your back, you want the nucleus in the middle of the disc, not in the back of the disc.

does touching your toes help your back, Kraken? It might not be a good idea because of what I just said.

I stretch, have a gulp of water and either put in a new C.D. if need be or repeat the song that pumped me up for my last set.
Oh and i look at old pictures of myself that i have taped all over the place.

What! Good grief man!!!

lol, got it, don't flex my back when resting for squats.

Really though, thanks.

Well, I haven't hurt my back doing deads yet. But what you said makes sense.

Am I flexing it doing that? I dunno. I figured it was stretching it.

i make good use of my time in between sets.

i look at myself in the mirror and flex

i dont care what karky says :action10:

lol jk

PACE, WATER, watch others if i feel they are impressive. check out the ladies depending on what section i am in.

flexing is basically just bending. Flexing the spine = bending the spine so that you create a curve. Flexing at the hip and keeping the spine in its natural arch is ok, but flexing it is probably not a good idea if you have had a disc herniation.

lol, no problem. It may have sounded a little extreme the way I said it. It's not like you're destined to blow out your back on squats if you flex your spine between the sets, but if you do it all the time over a long period, you'll increase your chances of injury.

Good to know karks.

I usually sit around, prep for the next set, pace, drink, and avert my eyes because I am trying to avoid being "that intimidating guy".

If someone I know is in the gym as well and they're not preoccupied, I'll BS with them for few seconds. Sometimes I watch the big TV they have up on the wall, change the music I'm listening to, play around on my iPhone... haha.

I pace around usually. If doing squats, I'll sometimes bounce around a little bit. I generally don't do too much static stretching.
I just try to focus on the next set mainly.

I thought static stretching could damage the muscles?

Either way, Ipace around and go over the next set in my head

typically i find myself spotting or helping my partner set up for their lift.

I work out with teens, and females, so the weights always need changed.

When I workout alone, I am catching my breath, and stretching my lats,..... I try my best to stay away from gaulking at myself in the mirror. Other people look so funny doing that, I try not to.
