I drink whey shakes quite a bit. i love them before workouts because they digest quickly as a breakfast, and don't bog my workouts down..and after because I never feel like eating and its a refreshing sort of thing. I know carbs should be associated in the shake before and especially after a workout. Without actually having to eat oatmeal plus the shake is there a powder or something I can add thats a good carb source for the shake pre or post workout? I tried adding oat bran to the shake once, and once tried oatmeal in my shake. it was just gross.
 
The shake may contain enough carbs already. What's the breakdown?
 
It doesn't. Its just a basic whey shake from Walmart. Per scoop it has 110 cals, 20 g protein and 2 carbs.
 
Here is my post lifting shake...

Whey choc mix-1/2 scoop
Whey non-flavored-Big half scoop
1 tbsp of Fibersure
Skim Milk-1/2 cup
Banana-half
Either small scoop of Peanut butter or teaspoon of fish oil
Frozen strawberries-Usually about a half a cup or till i get the smoothie thickness i like.

Now why what I have.

Whey choc and milk is to add lil more flavor and protein.
Whey non flavored is for all protein.
Fibersure to keep regular
Banana and strawberry as fast acting carbs
and Peanut butter/fish oil for lil fat.

Its in the 180 calorie area with tons of fiber, protein and fast acting carbs to restore that muscle.
