What can I do

Hello everyone I am new to the fotum and like probably most everyone else I am here to try and lose weight and better myself. Firstly let me tell you guys my story and the problems that I am encountering in the hopes that maybe someone has some advice.About a year ago I was put on some phsychological medication that although it did help me in some areas it made it worse in others. One of the downsides it had was its effect on my weight.Basically it slowed my metabolism to a crawl and made me crave more food. In the space of 6 months I gained about 65 pounds then it basically leveled off for awhile. But now I am off that medicine and am trying to lose the weight that I had gained with the basic philosophy of eat less exercise more. But theres one problem my body is so used to the amount of food that I was eating that if I try to cut back on what I eat I get ver light headed, dizzy and sick to my stomach to where I am on the verge of passing out.So my question is is there any kind of pill or anything that I can take to basically get rid of some of my appetite. All help is much apreciated cheers.

How long have you been off the meds? I had a ton of medication-withdrawal-related gain (I gained something like 40 pounds in the 6 weeks after I went off), and the sick / dizzy thing you describe sounds a lot like withdrawal.

I started losing about 7 -8 months after I went off the meds, and didn't have any problem with side effects from eating less.

That sick / dizzy could also be low blood sugar - I find that adding protein and fat (nuts are good) and replacing refined carbs with fruits and vegetables helps keep me feeling better between meals.

Duff,

Welcome!

Have you read any of the stickey threads on this site yet? Might I sugest checking out the nutrition section, there is a lot of information that will help you understand how to get what you want, the healthy way. Loosing weight does not have to mean starving yourself, and your vershion of cutting back what you are eating may be really to drastic. I would guess so since you say you are light headed.

I would pay close attention to the info regarding how many calories (how much energy) your body needs to loose weight, it is different for every individual and you will find the info on this site.

Your problem might not just be your appetite, it might be that you actually aren't feeding your body enough.

You better find out first, if you are getting enough food in, before you go adding a suppresent to the mix, you don't want to do more damage.

You can put your info into this site and it will tell you the amount of calories your body needs even at rest. Then you can use the Harris Benedict Formula, to deturmin your daily caloric needs. You can find the formula on this site, or by searching for it on google. It's based on your height weight gender age, and activity level. This formula tells you how much your body needs to stay at the weight you are at. So after that you deduct around 15-20% from that you will have a ballpark to work with, with how many calories your body needs to loose weight. A free account with , or can help you keep track of your food, so you will be in total control of your lose...

If all else fails, and you still feel ravishingly hungery I would try to find some natural way of suppresing hunger instead of throwing another pill into the mix. If you read the stickey's and some other threads around here you will find out some really great information.

Hope this helped, and good luck!

I think except of taking medicine the best way is to cut back on what your eating, don't eat out anywhere, and don't eat stuff like chips and cookies and candy. It comes off slower than any of these fad diets, but as long as you don't go back to old eating habits it will work. Like, eat one bowl of cereal for breakfast. Eat a sandwich and some veggies and dip or something like that for lunch. If you need a snack, either eat fruit or if you need to eat something like chips than get low fat ones or quakes (mini flavored rice cakes), they're really good. And then for dinner eat something sensible like a meat, a carb, and a veggie. Then if you need a snack at night again eat something sensible.
