Sport What can I do about my high Metabolism?

Sport Fitness
I've been trying for 2months and there is little change in my shape.

I do weight training 3 times a week, mainly upper body and I'm getting food such as pasta, noodles, potato bread etc.

I'm feeling I'm doing something wrong especially within my diet.

I am underweight. I don't have an eating disorder; I just have a fast metabolism. I want to know how I can gain some weight and not stick out like a sore thumb for being so thin.

I would appreciate some links or advice as I'm getting unmotivated to keep trying :(

Thanks, Tim.

Do you know how many calories you eat in a day? Try to count it and post it up here.

At the moment, I do not know how many calories. I'll post up tomorrow.
Usually its similar too:
  • Cereal and toast - 7/8am time
  • Ham and cheese sandwich - 11/12 time
  • Pasta snack - 3/4pm time
  • Cooked dinner (veg/pork/potatoes) - 6/7pm time
  • Ham and cheese snadwich -10/11pm time

Thats like a guide of what I eat per day. Maybe you can get a rough idea from that.

I'm female, 5'4" and weigh 152 pounds (not fat). You eat about 1/3 of what I eat in a day. I couldn't live on what you are eating. I'd be a walking cadaver.

Bottom line: You need to eat more food. Maybe try some protein shakes, too.

I'm at work and don't have time to post a decent daily food regimen for you. Hopefully one of the guys who knows a lot more than I do can help you out before I get home ;)

But how large is each meal? You may want to plug in the foods and amounts into one of the web sites that tracks these things to get an estimate of how much you are actually eating each day.

You might want to also add a little variety in your food, since it does not seem like you have much vegetables, and you meat intake is all from pigs. Nuts and avocados may help you get more calories in if you are having trouble with that. Perhaps at breakfast add some eggs or nut butter on your toast to get more calories and protein.

That's it right there. We always say "if you're not gaining weight, you're not eating enough."

When I first started lifting at in my early twenties I was 125lbs. I eventually got up to 180lbs, took three years. At one point I was consuming 6500 calories a day. More than likely as you get older it will slow down. But now you will have to consumer more food. :)

Hi there,

If you're underweight and eating 4000 calories a day, unless you're doing extreme amounts of exercise, you should go back to your doctor ASAP. Malabsorption problems could be one problem, so could a hyperactive thyroid. In either case, these are not things you can just take care of yourself; you will need medical treatment to assist you.

I totally agree with abear (and the other posters) I'm 33 years old and I eat 5000 calories a day in order to put on muscle mass....and for me that is a really slow, clean bulk. You simply need to track your calories and eat more. What you listed doesn't sound like much.

Hmm
Sandwiches are around 150
Pasta snack about 300

Not sure about the others :/
I'm not too sure how many meals I should be taking, I'm guessing 4/5 is standard?
Can't see how you guys can take a couple of thousand calories a day.

It's already been said here. Eat more...Lots more. But don't eat junk. Eat healthy whole foods and lots of them. Yes eat more than 3 times a day. Maybe consider adding in a protein shake to help your muscles grow.

Looking at what you listed the first thing I see is that you eat a very small breakfast. A bowl of cereal and toast is not enough for a morning meal especially if you are trying to gain weight.

Try having some eggs, some fruit, a bowl of cereal, ect. Make or morning fruit smoothie or shake.

Eat healthy, eat right, and eat enough and you will gain and stop sticking out as super skinny.

You can either add more meals (I eat 7X a day personally) or increase serving sizes or add more foods. Items like peanut butter, olive oil and nuts can boost calories quickly. :)

1) buy almonds
2) use blender to chop and then puree
3) take two slices of bread
4) apply 1 inch layer of almond butter to each
5) put it down your throat hole

Swap this with any one of your meals, drinking a couple glasses of whole milk to wash it down. Repeat as necessary. Roughly 4000 calories per serving, depending on the dimensions (and thus surface area) of the bread slices. Something like Dempter's Multigrain would be closer to 6k per sandwich.
