What are your New Year's traditions?

New Year's never really seemed like a huge big deal to me. Okay, you drink Champagne, stay up past midnight (not a big deal after age 16). Maybe you meet some friends. Maybe you visit your family. (probably not, because you already did all stuff for Christmas) And maybe eat pork and sauerkraut (yuck) Or corned beef or whatever.
Either way, it pretty much seems to me to be sort of a meh holiday. MEH.
Maybe because it's just so overshadowed by the Xmas season.
I just can't get too excited about it, really.
What do you guys do?

having a BBQ with some mates, otherwise nothing much else :)

The thing I love most about New Years, and it sounds really stupid, is the mobile phone network crash and getting texts through the small hours of the morning.

For us New Years Eve is fairly quiet, we will both be working during the day and pretty tired by the time midnight swings round. We have a glass of Bucks Fizz and stand on the doorstep watching other people's fireworks. One year I'd love to go to Scotland for Hogmany and experience a proper party though. New Years Day my partner will be asleep as he works nights and I'll probably go to my folks house for the day. To be honest I'm just grateful for the day off work :)

These days I'd say it's meh as well. When I was younger we used to go out to the club, get wasted, countdown to midnight, then shake hands (or make out) with random strangers. I might just go out this year.

Lately I'm holed up in my room while everyone outside drinking / being rowdy.

I had to look up Hogmanay, and found this:
One of the most spectacular Fire ceremonies takes place in Stonehaven, just south of Aberdeen on the North East coast. Giant fireballs, weighing up to 20 pounds are lit and swung around on five feet long metal poles, requiring 60 men to carry them as they march up and down the High Street. The origin of the pre-Christian custom is believed to be linked to the Winter Solstice of late December with the fireballs signifying the power of the sun, to purify the world by consuming evil spirits.
sounds pretty wild!

Yeah I love the old traditional ceremonies they pack a punch. I went to the Avebury Stone circle for the Summer Solistice and saw the Kings Drummers and fire dancers. Its an amazing atmosphere, really friendly too :)
