What are the best-and worst of the weight loss tv shows?

A&E's 'Heavy', MTV's 'I Used to be fat' plus 'The Biggest loser' (I forget the network) seem to be these main shows about overweight people losing weight. I think the British have a couple shows like this as well.
Which ofd these shows is the best- and the worst? I can't really relate to the MTV show as the overweight people are teens, and i'm in my early 40s. 'Heavy; is pretty good- and 'The Biggest Loser' is vile, as it exploits overweight people.
One cable health channel has had specials like 'The half ton mom' and several variations thereof, with bedbound super morbidly obese individuals- those shows are heart breaking.,

supersize v`s supperskinny me used to be really good, they`d put a under weight person and a obese person in a house for a week together and swap there diets around. i watched that when i wasnt even on a diet.

i recently found a new one on TLC called "heavily after after." only watched one episode, will have to follow it a bit more to get a better sense. follows a man who is 600+ pounds, showing his struggles and i believe he is trying to lose weight. it said he had already lost 300 pounds...

The pragmatist in me has no problem with the biggest loser. If it helps inspire people to lose weight (myself included) then I'm all for it. I also like to watch "Ruby" on the Style Network. I like it because it focuses a lot more on the burden of being overweight than actual weight loss.

The best weight loss show is Animal Hoarders. Seriously, one look at the disgusting houses on that show and I'm throwing up my dinner. Weight loss, without all the work!!!

So I went to check out the web page for the show 'Heavily ever after' and right across the top of the page in a banner ad was an ad for getting the DC cupcakes delivered right to your door.....

Sigh......

I don't think Biggest Loser "exploits" people. Reality TV is at it's most basic form exploitative BUT you sign up for it and fill out an obscene amount of paperwork saying film me 24\7. The show tries really hard( sometimes TOO hard) to show that they are people and that there's a mental reason they're overweight. Very similar to Ruby, she had to tackle her feelings, her self esteem, and the burdens of being so large but with 20 contestants it's hard to show all those feelings on camera. My only thing is I hate the "gameplay" features. The show would be interesting enough just watching people lose weight without them changing the teams or making it harder every other week.

I applied to be on the show this year and making that decision...made me decide to get on a real regimen and stop waiting on something to happen to change my life.

Really hate them because celebrity trainers know nothing and do all these exercises that an everyday overweight person shouldn't be doing, putting them on a severe caloric restriction and are expected to lose lots of weight.

I don't really appreciate the show the biggest loser because in my opinion, trainers are so cruel to the contestants. Yes, pushing them to their limits might help them but I guess there are lot of ways on how to do that right. Just saying...

ABC's Extreme Makeover Weightloss Edition on Sunday nights is by far my favorite show! It is a 2 hour show that documents a person's weightloss journey over a span of an entire year. The newest season was just finished, but the network may show reruns over the next few months.

TV is intended to entertain people. There are a lot of trash there.

It is better to advise with doctor and trainer and spend more time on fresh air and doing exercises then sitting before TV-set.

I really like biggest loser because it teaches them how to eat when they are back at home, as well as what kinds of things to order when your out. The down side of that is most of us have busy schedules and don't have time to be at the gym 6 hours a day, which is also what they do on MTV's I used to be fat.

I find you can get bits of use full information for all weight loss shows but in order to have the kind of transformation that they do in that kind of time frame you need to either be on that show or work out more than anyone really has time for.

Besides I find the internet has way more information and a lot more to suit your own personal lifestyle.

Biggest loser for best and worst show on TV.

Best: They do try to shed light on the underlying reasons people put on the weight in the first place and try to instill better habits in people and communities.

Worst: Too extreme and makes people set unrealistic/unsafe goals for their own weight loss. I've read and heard that the trainers themselves have had issues with how the show has been commercialized with the growing product placements.
