What am I doing wrong?

Hey everyone,

new to the forum and looking for advice on what i'm doing wrong. I started my routine about 8 months ago at a scrawny 150lbs, and was told by a trainer friend to increase my calorie intake to 5000+ calories/day and hit the gym for an hour 3 times a week. He told me some weight gain was normal and to stick it out, but after topping 200lbs, I think it's time to get a second opinion.

Here is what I look like now - what am I doing wrong?

Hi,

It looks like you are getting your 5000+ calories from the wrong sources. You need to eat proper calories from natural carbs and proteins. Natural as in it hasn't been altered by man after it was harvested. Your training program need to be periodized properly and promote muscle growth. I think you need to revisit your eating habits and you workout program with your trainer friend. Look for healthy sources of calories and adjust your workouts it seems that all of your weight gain has been bad weight. You need to not eat 5000+ calories but increase your caloric intake by about 500-1000 calories and gain weight properly and slowly.
At this point you should be taking on some light cardio and adjusting your routine to better and more effectively gain proper mass.

Are you for real? Your friend's an idiot and you are close behind for letting yourself get fat. Find a new friend, cut back to what you were eating before and find someone who can give you a proper diet and exercise routine. 3 hours a week will not turn extra calories into muscle, it will turn into fat but you probably have that figured out by now. Sorry but I find your story unbelievable.
