Well...I've got 4 months : D

View attachment 5841

So as ridiculous as this sounds I need to train my skinny 139lb 5'9 ass into shape so I have a chance in beating a friend of mine in a boxing match. We got into a disagreement on how women are segregated from many sports. One of his points was to compare a women participating in X event against men would be the equivalent of me fighting him in a boxing match. (He's about 6ft 220lbs) I'm stupid competitive and took this personally as well as an excuse to get into shape. ^^ So about four months from today it's me and him in the ring! If this were you what specifically would you do to make the most out of the 4 months preparation time? (also keep in mind neither of us have any boxing training... at least I'm pretty sure he doesn't have any... haha) Thanks for any help : D

That will be interesting at best. There is a good reason for weight classes in boxing and I learned that sparring with a heavyweight years ago, I was light middleweight.
Newton's 3rd law - every action has an equal and opposite reaction
You can have equal strength, speed etc. of a heavier fighter, without the mass you cannot hit as hard. The figures are for example only.
Your weight 140lb
Your weight behind punch = 60lb
Your punch = 80lb
Recoil = 20lb 1/3 of the force you imparted on your opponent.
Opponent’s weight 220lb
Opponent’s weight behind punch = 100lb
Opponent’s punch = 80lb
Recoil = 0lb you get all of the hammering from this and some from your own.

You have less reach, less weight and will need a chest protector meaning he doesn't have to reach as far for body shots. You will likely be weaker due to the comparatively pathetic amount of testosterone you will produce compared to your male counterpart, this is fact not sexism.
If you go for a slugging match you’ll lose very badly. As your friend, hopefully he’ll have the grace not to knock you out cold if you were to be foolish enough to attempt this route. However he is untrained too so may lack the coordination to stop himself under heavy fire, so could seriously hurt you unintentionally.

The Cuban style of boxing, my personal preference, is about speed and point scoring. The power behind the punch is irrelevant to points in competition unless going for a knockout, so if you are in, score a few hits and get out before they hit you back or get 2 for their 1 you will win. Treating boxing like chess ensures you lose fewer points than your opponent. This was my style and is infuriating to old style sluggers who know they are hurting you and still losing.
One major flaw in this system. The most tiring part of boxing is not the ducking around or punching it’s being hit, the harder you are hit the more tiring it is. If your opponent is a nasty git like me they will give a quick jab in the solar plexus at the end of your out breath, winding you with little force. A few of these in succession, you become dizzy and your eyesight blurs making you a sitting duck.

The only thing you can do to prepare for boxing is get to a class with the right type of coach. To find out who that is talk to them about what you are doing. If they start talking about hardcore knockouts, wrong coach, good guard, speed and watching for openings, bingo.

All the bag work etc. is good preparation but nothing beats sparring and that is where you will learn the art of boxing at its core. It will scare you and it should because you will be giving away virtually every advantage going in this bout.

Do you think he's a girl, or something? Try re-reading his post.

I'd also be curious to hear what suggestions people have for the OP.
(Although I don't have any bigs plans like you. Good luck mate).
