weights at the gym vs. resistance training at home

Hellos everyone :)

I do go to the gym, I'm trying to go 5X a week to do cardio on the machines there. They have a seperate section at the gym I go to where they have all the weight machines but I never really want to go in there. There are hardly ever any other girls, just guys with huge muscles, lol. I think I would feel awkard around all those guys. Plus I really don't know how to use many of the machines anyways.

But I know weight training can be really helpful when your trying to lose weight. My boyfried suggested maybe I can get some of those resistance bands and just use those at home. I was looking into them and found some pilates sets with 2 DVD's and the resistance band. The dvd's say one is for an ab workout and the other one is the rest of your body. Anyways it said it helps tone muscles and all that stuff and sounded pretty good to me, seeing that's what I want - to tone.

As anyone tried do to something like that instead of normal weight training??

I entirely know where you are coming from. In my apartment gym the weight training side is like buff 20something boys hangout. They like to grunt and generally make a show of how much effort they are using. I just can't bring myself to do that with them, so I wait until morning when they are gone, or I do some of that home stuff.

Here's the crazy thing, those home deals with the resistance bands kick my butt way more than the traditional weights. And, it is way more important to do something than nothing, so if you are uncomfortable doing strength training in the gym, at home is just great!

i hate how gyms have 2 seperate sections for cardio and weights, it always creates that devide

however on topic resistance exercises are great, builds great funcional strength and you can do them anywhere :)
