Weight Watchers

Is anyone doing Weight Watchers or has anyone done it in the past? How has your success been? I am overseas and as far as I know, our base does not have meetings. I plan on doing it online. I have a few friends who have had great results with Weight Watchers and exercise and I hope the same will happen for me!

Weight watchers currently only appears to market a points based plan (called "discover" in the UK). The points are a combination of calories and saturated fat. You would probably be able to replicate much of the on-line experience by simply following the forum and counting at least calories and saturated fat using

You can also count so much more using that website - protein, fibre and calcium for instance.

Up until the end of last year they marketed an alternative plan which they called "core". I thought that was a much better plan as it focused on filling foods. It therefore focused much more on building a food plan from healthy foods and the quantity eaten was limited more by your feelings of fulness rather than weighing and measuring things.

I have done Weight Watchers in the past and found it quite helpful but really all the information you need is online. For example, you can get a list of points for different foods and you can get information on how many points a day you'd need based on your weight. So I would never recommend paying for the program because it's the basic knowledge (eat less = lose weight) like Omega said you can gain all the essential information here on this site.

However, the big thing is that WW does not consider sodium, types of fat, protein etc when calculating points. So please, anyone doing the program, consider these things in the kind of food youre eating.

hi!
im doing WW since May and its perfect for me.
the basic information i got via google. it only takes time to read in.
my results: 14 kg less and no day with hunger, because of 4 or 5 daily meals and enough fruits, vegatables, milk-producs and poultry producs. also like wholemeal.

I have done WW in the past and had success with it, but I personally don't find it a plan that I can sustain long term.

I found the "points" system more work and more confusing than just counting calories and watching my nutrients.

Obviously YMMV and all that. :) I know it works for a lot of people and it does encourage people to think about WHAT they're eating as well as how much.

Hi,
I am currently doing WW's and have found it very easy to use. I have fallen into the habit of eating more regular sized portions and eating more on schedule.
I am never hungry and continue to lose weight 1-2 pounds per week. All WW's does for me really is to make everything convenient. The information available there is not fad type eating. My exercise consists of walking daily, usually about 1/2 hour. I should probably do more but for now this is working.

i got on the ww plan some time ago but i just dont have the endurance to stay on it till the end. right now, only eating their meals cos i feel less guilty eating ww food since it's supposed to be healthy

I always feel that the food that you cook from scratch is a whole lot more filling and more healthy as well compared to package meals.

For me - lean cuisine style packages never fill me up at all. That leaves you in danger of wanting to snack. A home cooked meal which includes a lot of vegetables works out much better all round - and often costs less too.

Packaged food tends to be full of sodium and all sorts of preservatives. A lot of people gain weight if they have too much sodium. I always do.

Some preoducts from other organisations are healthier too. We used to buy WW mayonnaise until I realised that the Hellmans extra light mayonnaise was better for weight loss.

The only things that I buy that are WW own brand are butterscotch drops which I buy at meetings.
