Weight Watchers

Weight Watchers - now here is a diet that actually teaches you how to eat healthy and exercise with the help of giving you a point system for the amount of food (points) you're allowed to eat. If you're not a patience and you're someone who wants to see quick results this diet is not the one for you.
In order for you to see results you must eat healthy and exercise regularly.

With Weight Watchers they do encourage you to attend meetings, which can end up costing a nice sum. However, if you can't go and attend meetings you can register online and do the meetings online.

It's predicted that the average weight loss is 2 pounds a week. If you go any faster than that you have a chance of regaining it all back.

To find out more about this diet try typing in Weight Watchers diet in the Google.

Hi Lisa,

I've been trying all sorts of different diets and have found that I'm more successful with Weight Watchers than any other diet that I've been on. It teaches you how to eat healthy, but at the sametime the right consistancy. You're not eating just one main meal you can have meals that include a appetizer and even dessert. It also teaches you that you can't lose weight just by eating healthy (which you do) but in order to lose extra or even more and keeping it off that you must exercise.

You don't have to buy protein shakes, pills, Jenny Craig forzen dinners. I find that it works and I show it as I've lost over 40 pounds in 8 months and I've done it the healthy way!

I'm planning to start Weight Watchers just as soon as I can find the basic info - I'm too poor right now to actually join. I'm hoping to find the info either online or at the library.

There is a Weight Watchers cookbook out there that has really good recipes and at the beginning of the book it shows you the point system, where you find your weight and how many points you're allowed to eat in the day. It's called "Weight Watchers New Complete Cookbook". I know you can buy it on Amazon or if you happen to have a Costco nearby you can buy it there. Well at least I know they had it cause that's where I bought mine.

I would say that cookbook gives you a little bit of a start.

so you can actually follow weight watchers on your own, without the meetings etc. That sounds interesting, also a lot nicer to your wallet.

Are there just recipes in the book or is there other info as well - beside just your points-allowance?

Thanks for the info

Basically it's just recipes, however, each recipe shows the fat, calories, dietary fibre etc. However, I saw the other day that you can buy the at-home-kit of $99.00usd dollars and it includes cook books, point finders, the weight watchers magazine, the weight watchers top seller health bars, the points calculator, along with a book that lists the point contexts of fast food eating.

thanks for the information catwoman...maybe I should look into that. It's good to know that they offer a somewhat affordable solution as well.

A few Details to get would-be Weight Watchers, started

Hi everyone,
I was reading the posts on here and thought it would be a nice idea to post some basics of the WW program.
It has been several years since I stopped going to WW because it was terribly expensive, and I decided I had the basic 'tools of the trade', and could do the program without the meetings.
Things have probably changed since then, but these are the basics i am armed with-:
(To change these figures to lbs, please multiply by 2.2 for a basic conversion)

64kg and under = 18 points for women and 20 points for men
65 to 79 kg = 20 points for women and 22 for men
80 to 94 kg = 22 for Women and 24 for men
95 to 109 kg = 23 for women and 25 for men
110 to 124 kg = 24 points for women and 26 for men
125 to 139 kg = 25 for women and 27 for men
140kg and over = 26 points for women and 28 for men

lean meats the size of your palm (no fingers = approx 3 points)

Skim milk = 1 pt for 1 cup
Low fat milk = 1.5 pts per cup
Full cream milk = 2 pts per cup

Fruit varies between 0.5 to 1.5 for small to medium serve

Veg. vary from 0 pts for tomatoes, cucumbers, peas, pumpkin etc for small serve to things like 1pt per medium potato

Rice and pasta are 2.5 pts per small serve
cereal varies; a small bowl of high fibre cereal = 1.5 pts
1 slice of reg bread = 1 pt.... fruit loaf = 1.5 per slice and grainy vary between 1.5 and 2 pts, etc

I found a site with some WW recipes, so this may help get anyone who is interested, off to a good start.

I would recommend going to at least one meeting to purchase some items relevent to you...i.e. a points calculator, perhaps dining out guides, cookbooks etc.
Alot of people benefit from the structured meeting system, whilst others feel happier doing their own thing at home....whatever works for you!

I hope this helps.

Best wishes for diet success,

ice :)

Weight watchers is good, if you have time to attend meetings, keeping a balanced weight is tough. you need schedule and good choices...

Weight Watchers seems to be the answer!

Hi everybody--

My first post was basically about being frustrated that no matter how consistent I was with healthy food and exercise, I just couldn't get those last few pounds off. And I refused to be hungry.

Well, I took the plunge and joined WW. Yes, it isn't free, but it really isn't that expensive if you think about it. I, in an average week, save on groceries more than WW costs per week. And, when you get to lifetime (your goal maintained for 6 weeks), you are a free member.

Anyhow, I was skeptical about tracking all my food and figuring points, but let me assure you that it's really easy. It's not complicated math or pages and pages of writing. And woohoo! I'm not hungry--well maybe a touch between breakfast and lunch, but not that nasty gnawing feeling. Give it a try and see it if it's your answer too.

You truly can eat whatever you want if you're willing to spend points on it--I just got back from a week in Florida, where I ate steamed or grilled fish, lobster, crab, shrimp--and key lime pie, and gelato, and I still lost .6 this week--of course, I did exercise almost every day and did include lots of salads, fruits, and smaller portions of the yummy stuff. But I was not deprived. YEA!

Hello Retro Girl

I hope that you are doing well on weight watchers. I used to belong to a weight loss group but stopped as my son began to grow. I enjoyed it. You not only get help lossing weight but you are able to make new friends.

I hope that you keep up the good work. And always remember that nothing is ever free in this world.

I joined WW 3 weeks ago and so far i have lost 4.4kg which i think is wonderful. Im sure its not for everyone but so far im loving it.

Thanks lisa, im thinking of starting a diary on here just so i can keep track of what im doing.(I think it keeps you honest). I have been visiting here for about 2 months and every one seems to suport each other no matter what they are doing to loose weight and it gave me the kick in the butt i needed :D . I would like to say thank you to all of you who have opened your selves up to everyone you are an Inspiration.

HI rosered ..how is the WW going? I am considering WW, once I get closer to my goal weight and the weight becomes a lil harder to take off, as I have heard that it really teaches weight maintenance,..which is my downfall. Good luck with it!

Hi jennifer,WW is going realy well for me so far.I have a long way to go befor i even think about maintenance lol but there is a woman there that lost over 50kg around 110p (she looks so different from her befor photo's) and she is now maintaining. The recipes are ok and you eat a lot of fruit, veg and salad. My weigh in days are mondays so i will let you no how i go this week.

I love the Pump Energy Food. I've been there for years and I just got their new book! Is anybody elso from New York?

I just bought some WW points guides through "trade me" like Ebay. Really cheap as it is the 2000 edition but it has 5000 foods in there and gives me a good idea! I just bought a little calculator that calculates the points from the kilojoule and the fat content or so - I'll see soon:) I only just started today, and just read above that I am acctually allowed 20 points, not just 18 so I did more than well with my 19 ;)

Mission Accomplished!

Yeah, it's me, RetroGirl. I started this thread at the beginning of my Weight Watchers experience, and now, after 14 weeks, I've lost 18 pounds and met my goal weight. I haven't weighed this since I met my husband almost seven years ago! While it wasn't a huge amount of weight, I'd fought hard for those seven years to try to get back here. I am convinced that Weight Watchers is really my answer for life. It's not hard, and it doesn't feel at all "diety." Good luck everybody.

Congratulations on meeting your goal! It's great to see people succeed! Best of luck to you on keeping it off! :)
