Weight training whilst losing weight (newb)

I have been reading several stickies and previous threads on this forum, gathering quite a bit of useful information.

Currently on a diet which is restricting my carb and fat intake, primarily to lose weight and fat. I would consider myself a fairly chubby bloke (185pounds, 6ft)... Anyway, leading to my concerns, I am just doing 30 reps of each exercise with no rests, only a small rest between exercise (trying to include most muscle groups). Doing this mostly to exhaust myself and help my weight loss progression.

Would you suggest a different routine for someone who is just wanting to lose weight? Help will be much appreciated.

Any advise on a better routine whilst losing weight would help :p

Hi Mate,

A lot of your weight loss will be in the kitchen, low carb, low fat and high protein. You need to make sure that your in calorie deficit in order to loose any weight. There are loads of calculators online for working out your BMR and work from there.

In terms of your lifting. Stop with the high number of reps as this is not the most benificial way to loose some weight and or gain some muscle. Lift heavy! And stick to compound movements that utalise a number of yoru muscles for one action i.e. squats, deadlifts, clean and press, bench press, shoulder press, pull / chin ups. Find a weight that you will struggle to finish approx 8-12 reps with 90 secs rest inbetween sets. Best bet would be to run with a full body workout twice a week while your body adapts to being worked hard. And include some cardio to increase calories burnt. And dont forget to rest!!

Hey,
Thanks for your input, I'll try and figure out the BMR :)

As for now, I cannot actually go running, ever since I had an ankle accident it has been very hard to run properly as it always returns to its old state (stiff and a straining feel) :(
