My first bit of advice would be to start reading some of the stickies found at the tops of the various sub-forums.
My second bit of advice would be to pick a small change that you feel at least 90% confident tackling over the next couple of weeks... and start experimenting with it! This is a journey of many, many steps. So meet yourself where you're at - not too much so that you burnout like most people. But also not too little so that it's not challenging at all. And again... just start.
