Weight Loss

Hi there, well I'm a 5'6, 18 year old female, I weigh 12 stone 10 pounds which is about 80 kg I believe. I'm looking to lose about 40 pounds, perhaps a little more. At the moment I don't have a job or go to college, so I'm in the house a lot, thus meaning I'm not too active! I eat really badly on a normal day, I binge a lot, eat a lot of chocolate, cake, crisps all of the stuff that I shouldn't be eating. I'm hoping to perhaps cut my calories, and start doing some exercise such as walking for an hour to two hours a day and doing sit ups/stomach crunches and on top of that I'm going to buy a skipping rope and was thinking of doing some HIIT with that if that's even possible.

Any advice or help that you could give me would be greatly appreciated! :)

Hey, welcome :)

Well done for taking the first step! :D

I'm 17 and go to college, but I'm in the house very often too. This place is really helpful with tips and encouragement, have a look around and you'll soon be on your way. It's a great feeling when you're on track and know what you're doing and how to do it! :D

I wish you the best of luck! x

My daughter is also VERY conscious of her weight as she gained weight in 8th grade from inactivity/eating like when she was playing sports. She is now 18 and plays lacrosse at school--but finds herself in sedentary situations A LOT. She is CONSTANTLY going running, biking, playing basketball at a court near our house, working out with pilates bands... Basically being very active every day. She also drinks no soda and eats no candy/sugar. No more problem!!!

Now if Mom could just get on the train with that!

Just thoughts...

XOXO

Hey!
I'm 18 5'9" and I live on an 11 acre ranch. So i'm active but not as active as i should be :), I now workout everyday...well i have one rest day :D. I'm eating better and counting my calories :D. I wish you the best of luck!!!!

Seems to me that you know exactly what your problems are - eating badly and inactivity. So, I would try correcting both. For the food, start eating healthy and start cutting the calories - but NOT TOO MUCH! As for activity, my suggestion is that you find something that you enjoy doing, something that you are likely to continue long term, and that burns the energy. Here are few suggestions:
  • walking / hiking.
  • jogging / running.
  • cycling.
  • Swimming - join a swimming fitness group.
  • Gym or class group activities such as spin cycling, yoga, dancing, step aerobics etc.
  • Joining a gym or fitness class. Some people dread this, but it really isn't at all bad.
  • dog walking, horse riding etc
  • Home exercises with DVDs, skipping etc - maybe some home weight lifting equipment.
  • and hosts of other things.
This is why it is a lifestyle change, if you want to lose the weight AND keep it off, you are most probably going to have reinvent some parts of your lifestyle. Of course, you could alternatively go on a slimming diet, force yourself to relentlessly exercise until you lose the weight, and then put it on again. That seems to be the favoured method of so many people.

However you achieve it ladyxbird, I wish you the best of success.

Hey, thanks for everyones replies, I really appreciate it. I need all the help I can get! I was wondering what everyone thought on how many calories I should be eating to lose weight? I'm really unsure as to what's too little and what's too much, and how what types of food I eat will effect my weight loss. If I was to cut my calories down to an amount that would enable me to lose weight but I was eating unhealthy foods within that calorie intake would that hinder my weight loss?

Thanks guys. :)
