Weight Loss XXL > XL

Hi!

I'm new to this board and just looking for some friendly advice :)

I currently weigh 312 pounds (i'm male), and have just recently started a decent healthy eating diet and have been exercising everyday. I'm aiming to be able to drop from having to wear XXL shirts down to XL. Does anyone have experience with this goal or similar and know roughly how many pounds/time it would take to do this? XXL (uk size) currently fits me OK, though quite baggy, XL is very tight so i'm kind of stuck in the middle.

I know that weight comes off people in different ways but i'm just looking for a rough guide. Many thanks for any help in advance!

you can't really give a X number of pounds = Y number of inches comparison. I dropped 10lbs when I first started lifting. I went from M to L shirt size. A lot of other factors can be at play.

It's really hard to say. It all depends on your body type, your height ... gosh and all kinds of other factors.

I will say that in general a healthy rate of loss is 1% of your body weight per week. So, for example, if you weigh 200 lbs, you should expect to lose about 2 lbs per week, on average.

Hope that helps some. :)

Natural Weightloss Tips

I am a physical therapist with a interest in helping people with their weightloss. You must remember that the main reason that people gain weight after the age of 30 is due to their decrease in activity level. This also has a negative effect on muscle mass. If you increase your muscle mass by weight training, you will naturally stimulate your metabolism, and therefore burn more calories. Calorie control is also an important factor. Try to eat a well balanced diet. In the morning, try to eat about 1/3 of your calorie intake at breakfast time. This well help support your metabolism. You may also want to eat smaller but more frequent meals and increase your water intake. If you have tried all of this, or wish to try something new, you can visit [spam] This is a all natural weightloss website. You can read up on the core-4 system there. I have lost 9 pounds in 3 1/2 weeks with this all natural system. You can sign up free and they back up your first order with a 90 days money back guarantee. Well worth looking into. To your health!

Thanks for all your replies.

I've been on a diet for 2 weeks now and sadly its not going anywhere. I haven't been exercising as I wish to lose the first part of the weight with pure diet (which I thought was possible because i'm obese anyway). I started at 312 pounds and have been on a strict calorie control diet of roughly 1400 calories a day which is way below my BMR. Weighed myself today and i've put on a pound! I at least expected to go down by at least something, not put on.

First of all, you have some unreasonable expectations. :) You have to give it more than 2 weeks to work. Some people don't see an initial drop in scale weight for 3 or 4 weeks ... especially when you're very overweight, sometimes it takes your body a while to catch up.

Secondly, you're not eating enough. Even given that you don't do any exercise, you should be eating around 2600-2800 calories a day to lose weight healthily.

Also I don't understand why you want to lose the "first part" with pure diet. When you don't exercise, that means what you're losing is part fat, part muscle mass. If you exercise, you'll lose more fat and maintain healthy muscle.

I really suggest you read the sticky posts in the various areas of the board. You seem to be missing the boat on some really important nutritional information. :)

Well i've been *trying* to do exercise but at this weight and fitness level its quite hard to be able to do anything that would probably make a difference.

I've been walking 1-2 miles at least 4 days a week but thats only at a pace of like 2.5mph so I don't think it would make much difference. Been trying to do some aerobic exercise at home, pressups (bent leg), squats, jumping jacks etc to get heart going but I can only manage this for 5 minutes MAX.

Any exercise makes a difference. If walking is all you can do then that's what you should do. You'll find as you do it that you get faster and can walk for longer - but you won't get better at it unless you keep doing it. :)

When I first got on the elliptical machine at the gym, I could barely make it 5 minutes at the lowest setting. Now? I can do the 45 min "hill climb" at level 12 (I'm nearly dead after, but I can complete it :) ). I would never have been able to get to this point if I hadn't done the 5 mins ... and 5 mins ... and 5 mins ... and holy cow one day I was able to do 7 mins.

It's like playing the piano. You can't just sit down and expect to be able to play a sonata. You have to start with scales. :)

I started out at 320 pounds at 6'2 (male) and was wearing XXL shirts and even a couple XXXL shirts. I am now down to 268 and I can fit into XL shirts. When I wear my XXL shirts people comment on how I need new clothes because they are too baggy. I would like to wait until I get to a large but that may be pushing it

HAHAHA, doesn't that piss you off? I mean, your shirts are obviously too big and they look kind of stupid on you, but buying new clothes would be pointless because they'd be too big for you again in just a few more weeks.

Well done, nice work! I can actually fit into XL now, its just too tight for now. I'm 6"2 too, I guess we are just different shapes then :) I've lost 10 pounds so far though, but i'm guessing most of that is water and I won't see any inch loss just yet.

Thanks for all your replies, helps me to keep going.

Oh im sure I could have pulled an XL on when I was 310-300ish, it just would have looked like a wet suit on me

I have a big frame to start with, add an extra 100 lbs or so, and you have a big guy wearing XXL shirts.

I started at 315lb and XXL shirt and didn't feel comfortable in XL until 240. 6'0" tall.
