Weight loss machines?

Hey everyone! I'm chris, I need to lose 70 lbs, I spend most of my days on a computer since I don't have much else to do, but I have alot of downtime in which I like to spend just trying to be active. When I was a freshman in highschool I weighed about 215, now I'm around 285, and I won't let myself break 300 even if it kills me. during my freshman year I played 3 sports, now I'm in my senior year and I play none, because everyone I hung out with has either graduated or quit.

So I got my first job this summer, and I have 250$, with it I want to buy a machine to help me lose weight. I was thinking of a treadmill but those tend to hurt my joints after prolonged use. I saw a piece of equipment called a Gazelle, they seem like fun but honestly I doubt they're effective.. Can anyone give me some good advice, I'm buying online off of..

Your help would be greatly appreciated..

I've heard good and bad things about the gazelle -
check out eopinions - there's a ton of reviews there on it

But really - the best exercise equipment is the one that you use... find a store where you can jump on it and actually use it and see if it works for you...

Don't get a Gazelle unless you can get resistance bands or something with it. It was crap......I don't know if there are resistance bands that you can get with it. Mine didn't come with them, so all I was doing was swinging my legs and arms back and forth - - - dumb dumb dumb!!
Treadmills are great. You don't have to run if you don't want to. Walk or use the incline.
Ellipticals are better, in my opinion. No impact and full body workout.
good luck!

Well does anyone know the optional machine for weight loss that is under 250$? The Gazelle I was going to get has no resistance bands but I figured the longer strides would compinsate. If I were to get an Eliptical, what type?

I would not buy a piece of equipment but rather get a membership to a gym. I bought a treadmill and I think that is the best weight loss machine I could of got. It has helped me lose 104 pounds over the last 10 months.

Go with a membership so you can use a treadmill and other equipment. You cant get a decent electronic treadmill for $250 I think so I would go with a membership.

i have a gazelle that does have resistance shock things. and with the resistance on it is a pretty good work out. but i still prefer elliptical machines, they are just to big and expensive for me to own one.

Ok, well I'm self concious, so I think I might go with a treadmill, or a cross trainer, something like that.. if I can find one under 250.. I also don't have much room, so it'd have to be easily moveable... Bah...I'll figure it out.

I bought my elliptical for 215$. Its responsible for the 60 lbs I've lost. Its "fun" easy on the joints, and actually burns more cal per hour than jogging at a slow rate. Great whole body workout too. So if you dont want to lift to reshape your body, it will help tone you. If you have space for it, geto ne.

Just a suggestion - rather than spending the buck on new equipment you aren't sure you will like - check out the classified ads or for your area.. people are always unloading that stuff fairly inexpensively... Or go uber cheap and check out a mailing list type of local group -where people give away stuff... sometimes exercise equipment.

I just bought an elliptical that is still on the market for over $800, I got it for $225! The lady bought it and hasn't used it at all! It's a very nice one! I looked through the Bargain finder/ Buy/sell here in Calgary, that's where I found it. Do your research, some ellipticals are cheap in price and in quality. There are tons of websites that review the variety of types.
Good luck!
