weight gaining help!

sup fellas...i need help in getting bigger as in muscle big. i just bought pro performance weight gainer 2200 for me to work out with. i weigh about 130-135 and my height is 5'6. i was wondering if that is the best supplement to work out with and does it really help me getting bigger?

its not the best, it just provides a bunch of empty calories.

first step in gaining weight is to determine how many calories you are currently eating, then to add from there. solid food should be gotten first and then when you come to the point where you cant EAT anymore calories then look into liquid calories. homemade gainers are better than the sugar filled stuff.

we can go into more detail if needed :)

Calories help you get "bigger" or gain weight. It would help just as much as eating food (the right foods, of course).

If "bigger" translates as more muscle, then only working out will get you "big". You simply need enough calories/protein in your body to strengthen and increase muscle size via your workout.

In fact... reading the label... that junk has a TON of sugar in it. 1 serving is equal to 3 12 oz. cans of soda. I don't know why you would want that. Maybe someone else can fill me in to why a "sports nutrition product" has so much sugar...

one example
For Bulking: MRBs (Meal Replacement Bars):

use a large spoon to spread out the mix into the bottom of a Pam-sprayed glass or metal cooking tray (spread until even)

top with 4-8 packets splenda

put in the fridge overnight and cut into 8 equal bars that yield:

These bars taste amazing, and are perfect for: breakfast, pre OR postworkout.

ok that recipe is awesome. i made the ones for bulking and i can't wait to try em out. this will save me a lot of money, and the way i made em with some weight gainer gives me 375 calories per bar! Thanks a lot dude!

Never thought to make solid nutrition "shakes" at home... tis a good idea. I'll have to get around to trying it out.

thats what everyone did years ago before supplement companies realized they could put sugar in a container, call it a "weight gainer" and market it. i admit i used them like crazy years ago until someone clued me in

milk, yougurt, oats, fruit, powered milk, olive oil, peanut butter, etc combined in certain ways is tons better. plus homemade bars can be great also as mentioned :)

Question, i made those bars and left em in the fridge for about 24 hours, but they're still kind of gooey. Is that how they're supposed to be? Or are they supposed to be totally solid?

Oh yeah, and they taste a little too oatmeal-y for me, what should i add to make it taste better? More chocolate weight gain powder or peanut butter or milk?

adding more milk would make it even 'gooier' - id go with a little extra protein powder to make it a little more solid- dont know if itll do much to drown the oatmeal taste though. maybe try substituting wheat germ for oatmeal? or a bran/oat cereal?

I used a casine/egg protein mix so it seems to cover the taste of oats very well, it also makes it thicker so thats why I may have had to add an extra cup of milk. they are not rock solid, you should be able to pick up a pice with your finger tips the size of CD disk and still stay together well enough to walk around with, if it's too viscous I would add an equal amount of powder and peanut butter. this is fairly easy to make there is no way to perminatly mess it up just add more stuff if you need to, as long as it stays in the fridge.

I used a scoop of chocolate weight gainer. i also noticed after putting them in the oven they became a little more solid. You're supposed to keep them in the fridge though, right? Cuz when i keep em in the fridge they get more gooey. but anyway if i just add more weight gainer or peanut butter it should become more solid?

correct, you keep it in the fridge cause the you have milk and natural peanut butter and they will go bad if left out for a long time, it's probably fine to take it to work and eat at lunch or somthing.

ahh ok. putting em in the oven helps a lot ot make them more solid. the taste is kind of bland though, so i'm gonna add more peanut butter and chocolate weight gain powder to add some taste.
