Sport Weight gain

Sport Fitness
Hey guys,
I was wondering if any of you could help me out a little. I'm a 20 year old student with a severe inability to gain weight. I weigh around 57 kgs and stand about 5"9 so as you can imagine, I'm very skinny and have been for as long as I can remember. I’m a pretty healthy individual but my diet isn’t the best in all honesty. I eat as much as my flatmates (if not more) but because of my metabolism I continue to struggle to gain anything. I've been going to the gym regularly for about 2 months now, around 5-6 times a week, concentrating on using the weight machines there. I've seen quite a lot of difference in terms of muscle growth and tone but still no extra weight! I’ve tried using weight gain powders but they didn’t seem to make any difference and after reading up in this forum a little, they don’t seem to have many fans here either! I know the fundamental key to gaining weight and muscle is to increase your calorie intake but I was wondering if you have any recommendations or advice as to changes I can make in my diet/lifestyle. Ie. What are the (cheap) foods I should be looking to buy? Should i take any supplements etc.
Thanks.

If "winging it" isn't working, and you're serious about making change... I'd suggest starting to track your calories. It doesn't have to be indefinitely, but at least until you see where you're failing.

Something like could make the process much more convenient. Pick up a food scale from walmart for $20 or so and you're golden.

Report back with what you find out as well as your typical diet and we'll offer up some suggestions.

The bottom line is, if you're not gaining, you're not eating enough.

I second the 'track your calories' for whoever said it before. You may think you eat alot now, but it really depends on what your eating.

Clean foods = Need to eat more of to bulk up = get big and LEAN
Non-Clean foods = Don't have to eat as much of to get big = lack of quality macronutrients = gain less muscle = gain more fat = etc etc

Its pretty simple, keep eating more every week... when you find yourself gaining at the end of the week then you know how much you need to eat.
and weight gain powder isn't that horrible... they've really helped alot of hardgainers i've known.
