Weight gain when first beginning cardio exercise?

Does anyone know the scientific reason for why people gain weight after beginning running or other cardio/endurance exercises, for the first little while before losing weight? I'm not talk about muscle gain - there's another reason that I'm thinking of, but I can't recall the details. Thanks for your help!

i don't actually know. However, i do know that your body has a "comfort weight". It's very hard to break from that weight. Your body may put on extra weight when you start trying to lose it in an attempt to maintain it's comfort weight. As I said, i really don't know so i could just be talking out my ass ;)

I was told at my local gym, that your blood volume actully increase, so you can gain weight, because your body is making more blood, I dont know how much or if its enough to effect the scale, but it does make sense.

it could be because in the very beginning you lose all of your water weight, and the body isnt used to that happening so everything that you put in your body, it trys to keep it stored in the body b/c you body feels that it is losing too much energy. so you gain a little weight. that is what they called your comfort weight. but after a couple of weeks the weight will come off. that is why people say that you shouldn't weigh your self for the first month after you start a new workout because your body has to adjust to all of the changes. (i hope that helped a little bit)
