Weight Gain formula

Is there actually any point in getting any of this stuff.Granted I know nothing is a subsitute for a good diet but the problem with my intake is the fact that I don't eat enough to gain weight.It's perfectly healthy with plenty of vegetables and an overwhelming amount of rice, but it's not enough to bulk and I've no appetite.
Please don't bite my head off for asking this but I'd just like to know if weight gain formula has any merit at all or if it's just a pile of fat in a can.
