Weight gain by strength training?

Hi all, I've started my strength training recently (3 times every week) but I noticed I've gained some weight. My diet has not changed and I'm doing 3 times cardio exercises every week as well.

After some Googling I'm totally confused. Some people saying it caused by muscles retaining water, and some says because muscles are more dense than fat and weigh more...

Any ideas guys?

thanks

Anyone who says muscle weighs more than fat is wrong. A pound of muscle weighs the same as a pound of fat. Yes it is more dense and denisty is a product of volume X mass. You may very well be losing Fat and replacing it with muscle. Since the muscle fits more mass in the same amount of volume you may look the same but be gaining weight. This happened to me on my second deployment, i gained 25 lbs of muscle and looked slightly bigger but i was solid muscle and a lot stronger. Keep up the good schedule and you should be fine. You should also consider adjusting your diet to benefit the weight training you are doing.

The only difference between fat and muscle is that muscle is healthier weight than fat. Plus, it makes you look really good.

I agree, building lean muscle is much better than gaining fat it also improves health and your confidence because you look better and feel better.

It is common to gain 3-5 lb after starting any new exercise program. Yes, it is water. It is caused by tears in the muscle fibers. It can take 6 weeks to get back to normal. So don't worry about it! It will go away.

keep going with the weights. Increases in lean muscle mass will increase your metabolic rate and allow your body to burn calories more efficiently. You have a nice blend going with cardio and weights...keep it up. In my opinion it is not what the scale says anyways.
