Weider Platinum 600 Home Gym w/Digital Control

sorry have to ask a stupid question, but would it not have been better to post up this question before ordering it?

probably, if i knew about this website before i ordered it. am i not aloud to ask after i purchased it? lol!

You're allowed Lilian, but you spent how much on it? Odds are, we could have saved you money and you would have something better. Asking after you buy something is kind of ass backwards. Usually, one does the research before purchasing.

Now that you have it, or it's on the way, you have a choice: return it or keep it.

If you keep it, I hope you're happy with it and it helps you to accomplish what you want. If you return it, we're still here to advise you.

I don't think it cost that much, nor do I think what I'm asking and posting is ass backwards, but thank you very much for your friendly advice. It was $399 with delivery. Like I said before...had I known about this site prior, chances are I would have asked first. I did online research on the product and recieved positive results on review forums, I was just wondering if I could get some feedback from a fitness forum.

I recieved it and my first experience was an ok one as I'm trying to get used to a machine that uses pulleys rather than actual weights. I guess it's the weider version of the bowflex machines.

I guess no one else has this unit?

Are you using this in conjuction with loose weights? I looked at some on the Internet and it seems lacking in stations for an all around gym to me. I like my old fashioned Weider Pro 3200 but it does not go high enough in resistance for me. I bought mine used for $150 so I can probably get my money back out of it when I upgrade. I also use it in conjuction with a Weider Olympic 318lbs set of weights, easy curl bar and a home made bench and squat station. My Weider unit works great for my live in girl friend Sheri (She47441).

Don't get me wrong I am not putting this unit down just pointing out that you may have to add some things to get the best all around workout.

Well, it came with a video and you can actually do a bunch of different exercises with it. Not all of the exercises are shown on the website, but it does definitely have a full body workout in all areas when you watch their video, I had no idea either just by looking at it. I was quite surprised. You have to change the pulleys around and you can perform all different exercises for different muscle groups. I use free weights as well. I'm just a little chicky, so this works out well for me. I don't think it goes above a certain weight so if you're used to lifting heavy, then this one for sure wouldn't be good for you, but they had other ones that you can do heavier tension with. I'm used to using one like you have, but seemed as though all the stores now carry these pulley units. Figured I'd give it a try.;)

Sounds good, what are you doing for arobics? We inline skate in the evenings. Around here we are about the only one's doing it so it gets us some stares. We just got back from an hour jaunt. With Ashley and Sheri along I don't get a good cardio workout but it is a good, fun, family activity. :D My 17 y.o. son and I usually get out at least once on the weekend and get a good workout with hills and speed.

On the Weider 600 you ordered, you should use it a month or two and post a review so others can see how well you like it. I looked all over for one on the Internet and could find none.

I usually use a treadmill or ride my bike for like a half hour. I'm small and quite skinny, so I don't do too much cardio, maybe 25 min. or so. I'm really trying to tone up mostly. I'll definitely post up in about a month or two to keep everyone updated.

BTW, skating is great! If I weren't such a clutz, I would skate too....lol! I had roller blades at one point, but didn't do so well w/them....lol!

Thanks!:D

well now that i've been using it quite often, i have to say that i think i like the weights better than the pulley units. but, my question is does anywhere even sell regular weight sets anymore?? seems like all they have are these pulley units. :(

Lillian, have you tried looking in your local newspaper at all for free weights. I do not know if they have a classified ad section in your paper, but I know around here I seen several times people wanting to sell their free weights. Just a thought. BTW, free weights are far better than any pulley system. :)

****'s/Sport's Authority/Sport's Mart sells a 300lb Oly set for about $99-109. Also, look at Craigslist in your area, the classifieds, E-bay.

You definately DON'T want to buy a weight set from on online retailer, because you can pretty much double the price when figuring in shipping.

However, you can get the rack, bench, etc with free shipping, depending on the place.

I got two of my most important pieces from fitness factory, the powerblocks from a local retailer and the barbell and weight from a local Sport's Authority.

Here's some craigslist listings in your area:

I actually returned it..lol! Realized I really didn't like the way it functioned and would rather have a weight set and bench.

Thanks for the info.

Lillian ;)

I saw one broken on display at sears. with an "out of order" sign on it. Seems the electronics were not working right, a common complaint about this unit.

It is so easy to select a weight from a weight stack on a real home gym, why complicate things with motors and electronics?

I recommend people avoid these gimmics & get quality equipment from a reputable fitness store, most of them sell equipment designed to last.
