Water

This may sound absurd, but I am just going to tell the story of an experience I have had. For many, many years now I've heard and heard about the benefits of drinking enough water. Of course, being the cocky little teenager I was I blew that advise off and reached for the soda, or the beer, or the artificial fruit juice because of the taste. At times I would even have a soda BEFORE my workouts. However, for the past month now I have been drinking very large amounts of water daily, and drinking a little during my workouts (not too much though because cramps can result from too much water consumption before/during workouts). Water is pretty much the only liquid I drink now besides milk with my protein shakes. After the first workout I could tell a VERY great difference! Not only did I feel better and have more energy during my workout, but I had more strength also. I definately have to agree with all of the health experts I've been reading from that glorify the simple act of proper hydration. I can not argue enough, now, the importance of simply drinking enough water. This may seem like a simple, and rather wasteful thread, but for those of you who are like I was in the past, try it. Switch from the sodas and artificial drinks to water. Consume water, and consume LOTS of it. I promise you will see a difference in your strength and workout performance.

Hey. Im new to this site, and also new to weight training. But I'm going on this train and I plan on going on strong. I want to tone my arms and legs, my pecks, and get that six pack showin. So listen, JUST water? I have been taking in little soda...going on slow cause of the caffiene addiction and headaches, but mostly I have been taking in milk and juices, WATER of course as well...but juices aren't okay? You say you reccomend ONLY water? please let me know. I REALLY want to get my body toned and show my cravings whose boss. ;)

Hmmm, okay let me clearify it a little bit. Yes, it's very good to drink certain amounts of pure fruit juices and milk, vegetable drinks, ect. But, you should be drinking enough water to in combination with those other drinks. As for sodas, I would not drink them at all to of I were you. They are terrible for your body, and they actually dehydrate you.

Okay. So what kinda milk? Skim? 1% okay? And as fqar as juices. You say PURe juices. So...what brands? IS O.J. alright. Or what about v8 tropical blend :). But okay...drink nothing but water, when occasionly spurlging on juice and milk when wanted or needed correct?

btw, preciate ur resonse. I'm takin' all the help I can get.

Yes, mostly water, mixed with a couple glasses of juice and milk a day. Any juices that are all natural should be fine. Avoid artificial preservatives. As for the milk, if you are trying to lose weight I would go with skim or maybe 2% milk. If you are trying to gain I would go for the whole milk. This brings up a very good topic though. When calculating your daily caloric intake you need to be sure to not forget to add in the liquids that you drink. This is where many people actually gain their weight is in the liquids they drink. Sodas, milkshakes, artificial fruit juices, and coffee can all lead to unwanted weight gains, and boost your daily caloric intake up by around 100-300 calories.
