Sport Water!

I usually only drink water, but my problem is that I hate the taste of plain water and end up having to put crystal light in it for me to drink it. BUT, I want to stop eating/drinking artificial sweeteners as I know they aren't good for you. Just wondering if theres something else I can put in my water that a) has no artificial sweeteners in it and b) relatively few calories, if any

I might just tell myself to suck it up and drink plain water anyways :D

so you don't like the taste of nothing? :D throw a lemon wedge in or squeeze the juice into it, might help.

I really need to cut diet coke out I drink like 2 litres a day :( When I go biking ile take a 2ltre bottle of water (its cheaper to) :D

Yeah, making a big pot of iced tea could help. It can be an kind of tea as well. Peppermint iced tea is especially refreshing on a hot day. I've also heard about soaking a little pineapple in a pot of water. It may add a few calories, but you end up with water with a just hint of pineapple.

Yeah. I'm gonna need you to go ahead and, um, suck it up, muffin.

You're clearly not thirsty enough. Water tastes great to me.

I've always had a problem drinking water... before I started exercising I was dehydrated 99.9% of the time.

I'll probably have to start making tea in bulk 0.o

I was just being a jerk, but I really think you can and should learn to drink water. Tea contains caffeine, which is a diuretic. Green tea does appear to have fantastic health benefits, though.

How are you for electrolytes? Do you get enough salt? Contrary to popular belief, most active people don't get enough salt, rather than getting too much.

It's a matter of programming yourself to like water than other drinks.

I say continue using your usual mixture of stuff. Then slowly go off it. Increase water consumption per day until you no longer require it. Don't go "cold turkey." Just mix in sometimes, but most of the time drink water and you'll be fine.

I had the same problem with water, booringg...
So, I started getting seltzer water, and it worked great to give me a soda type feeling with no bad stuff. I ended up buying a seltzer maker, that I use at home, I use filtered water from the tap, plug in the bottle to the seltzer machine fizz it up and off I go.
It's helped me kick the soda habit and drink more water.

I would love to learn to love plain water! Its tough to love though.

I think my salt intake varies a lot each day. I think generally though I probably get a bare minimum amount... saltiest thing I eat would probably be cottage cheese and/or eggs. I've been wondering lately if I was getting enough or not. If I have to question it though, I'm probably not

Also, it might be like what Focus said about the salt. If you are really active, you might not be getting salt and your body is naturally trying to get salt in which case you crave for that mixture of water + whatever.

Start tracking, and aim for 500mg for every litre of water (or any other liquid) you take in. See how you feel. Gradually increase to up to 1g/litre.

There's an article about it on T-nation if you wanna take a gander. I've recently been very careful about this, as I've always drunk a LOT of water (I'm talking 2+ gallons a day) and ingested relatively little salt. Since I started sucking in the salt, I feel much much better overall, and find my thirst is sated much more effectively than when I had no solutes in me and would down an entire gallon of water after a run without managing to quench my thirst.

It's not a special scientific revelation or anything. It's perfectly instinctual. If you drove up here to visit the Kananaskis mountains you'd see a lot of wildlife on the side of the road, licking up salt, trying to stay healthy. :)

Definitely will give it a try. Thanks for the advice :)

How about squeezing fresh fruits on your water . It's all natural and good for your health. More vitamins and proteins from fruits .

If you're gonna add stuff to water, then watch out for ingredients like aspartame, maltodextrin and dextrose. I found these on a lot of those single-serving, no calorie drink mixes. If you have enough of these per day, it can effect weight loss (b/c dex and malto still spike insulin), and maybe your overall health (b/c of the aspartame)

I add my vote for lemon in water. Whether it's a lemon wedge or a few drops of lemon juice, it's a great way to add some flavor without calories or artificial sweeteners. I would, however, point out that most lemon juice you buy contains benzoate, which some people consider a no-no. I myself don't think it's that bad having some of it, but all the same, I try to get lemon juice without it.

I also think red tea is great. It is caffeine-free and has a more agreeable taste than other teas, such as black or green. I prefer my red tea with a little grapefruit juice although I don't know anyone else who has tried that.

I think there's a big difference between consuming lots of high calorie juice and just using a little juice to flavor water or tea. I don't think people should shy away from using small amounts of juice for flavoring purposes; it's not that many calories if you aren't using much.

Which is why I'm trying to avoid the drink mixes. I do have one every so often now, but only when I know I haven't been drinking enough-- I have one so I can drink it quickly and just drink plain water after.

I've just decided to fill up water bottles with the amount of water I need to be drinking in a day and carry them around with me wherever I go so I always have them.
