Water Retention

I've been having trouble with water retention lately. In order to combat this I've upped my potassium; my potassium:sodium ratio is about 2:1. I'm on a low carb diet which I've found successfully helps me lose weight and maintain muscle yet I still retain water mainly in my stomach. I make sure I eat enough fiber, drink at least a gallon of water a day, very little carbs(sugar), and keep my electrolytes in check. I take clonidine for high blood pressure(very low dosage, .1 mg per day). I believe this may be contributing to my water retention. I've done lots and lots of research and I can't seem to find a solution. I've also looked into diuretics but this doesn't seem viable. Any advice or guidance would be appreciated, thanks!

How's your water intake, OP? It sounds counterintuitive, but maybe you need to drink more water to prevent your body from clinging to every little bit of water. Also, you mentioned you have a 2:1 potassium to sodium ratio, but do you happen to know how many milligrams of sodium a day you're getting? I believe 2500mg is the RDA.

I'd speak to your GP/Physician, Matty, in order to allow you ascertain whether your course of medication is contributing towards water retention.

Additionally, although you may do your best to keep your electrolyte levels in check,. by presenting a urine sample, subsequent testing may reveal whether you're deficient in a particular mineral.
