Water Log!

Ok so, I didn't know where it would be best to put this one.

We only have about 4-5 peeps active right now, so here's my question.

Do you have a belief on water intake?

What do you base that on?

Are you keeping up with what you believe is best?

Let's get a group mentality on this and then do it man!

Whatcha say?

FF

FF's thought on this:
At 248 like I am, calculators tell me I should drink a gallon plus a day, but I'm not so sure. There is the coffee I drink, the moisture in my foods, and the water I swallow in the pool. My activity is not 3-4 hours of sweat a day, so ..... So, I'm thinking I want to commit to a half gallon a day. That means I will buy 3 gallons of water, and take them to the office each Sunday, for me to drink during monday thru friday.

btw- the last real discussion about this was with a great guy G8r80- miss him. He's probably an Ironman by now. love FF

I've never actually measured how much water I drink in a day, but I bet I can figure it out... I have cut soda out of my diet almost completely (just one now and then on special occasions), and allow myself orange juice with breakfast sometimes, so I am drinking water with all my major meals and throughout the day.

So one thing I do have an amount for is that during each CrossFit or derby workout I know I finish off my water bottle, which holds about 16oz. I usually refill it right after and get about half the bottle (so 8 more ounces) down in the car on the way home. My drinking glasses hold roughly 12 ounces of water, and I go through about one of those in the morning, about one more with lunch and with dinner, and between meals usually two more throughout the day. So I guess on average 84oz, which is a little over half a gallon I believe? More if CrossFit and derby happen on the same day because then I'm finishing off my water bottle twice to keep up with my sweating!

So I could easily agree to commit to half a gallon a day, since apparently that's where I'm at already - though I don't know how much I should be drinking if that's based on height/weight/activity and such.

Hmm, I'm a pretty committed water drinker (I think) but let's see...
I'm not going to count coffee as I think the caffiene negates the benefits, but I generally drink 3 large cups a day. That matters only because 1 measure of hydration that I use is the color of my pee - coffee does help clear it up even if not that great for the tissues. But I digress -
Morning - 12 oz glass of water, 6 oz glass of juice
At the office - 20 oz of water, sometimes 2 of these if I had a hard morning workout
Commute home (it's a long one) 40 oz Kleen Kanteen
Evening - 12 oz water
So - 90 oz unless I have 2 waters at the office (huge tanker glass), then it's 110. Also I live in AZ where humidity is typically -20

Yep, I think 1/2 gallon is a good starting point - I'd say it's the minimum given your activity level.

If you don't eat enough and are exercising, yes, you can absolutely drink too much. Hyponutremia (probably not spelled right).

It is a big problem with Grand Canyon hikers who focus too much on drinking and don't eat.

On an everyday basis, probably you will stop drinking when you get tired of running to the bathroom so it's self-limiting
