Just wanna know your thoughts on how much water you should take in? I am the kind or person who just drinks when I am thirsty and I also make sure that my pee is at least clear. Is this good enough?
Well, I have read that you should drink one ounce of water for every 2 pounds that you weigh. So, for example, if a person weighs 200 pounds, they should be drinking 100 ounces of water every day.
I don't strictly follow this and keep track of how many ounces I am drinking, but I do try to drink as much as possible. An added benefit of drinking water throughout the day is that is fills you up so you are not as hungry!
Some people may have told you that you must drink eight glasses of water a day. Some say seven glasses. But, the real truth is that eight or even nine glasses of water a day can be too much or too little. How much you drink depends on many factors and here are few of them: the amount of physical activity, your health condition and women who are expecting or breast-feeding. The Institute of Medicine advises that men consume roughly 3 liters (about 13 cups) of total beverages a day and women consume 2.2 liters (about 9 cups) of total beverages a day.
The American Sports Medicine Institute says you should estimate 1/2 ounce of water for every pound of bodyweight, if you are moderately active. Of course if you work out more or are more active, or if you have a high salt consumption, you might need more.
Also make sure that you're not taking any medication that would require you to drink less water. Many blood pressure meds react badly to drinking too much water ... check with your doctor if you're taking blood pressure meds, blood thinners, or any other heart-related meds.
also note that it does NOT mean you need to _drink water_. the X amount of ounces mean total fluid intake from any source. coffee, salad, meat, pop, etc all count to your water totals.
