Sport Water alternative

Sport Fitness
I used the search, couldn't find anything.

I'm kinda new to the whole better nutrition (my diet has been absolutely terrible!) and I'm looking for new things to eat and drink that will be healthy and help me (I'm trying to bulk up some- I'm kind of a skinny guy)

Here's my question. I love water, I drink it a lot. But when it comes to eating certain foods, I like to drink something that has more taste to it. I'm staying away from soda pop, and I'm not into tea or coffee. I heard somewhere that fruit drinks (Orange juice, apple juice, etc.) is not the best for you. Any ideas on what kind of drinks I could be having, that are healthy for me (I'm trying for that elusive 6-pack)

If the genetics are there, I have no other choice but to tell you: That getting the coveted six pack WILL BE ONE OF THE MOST DEMANDING and MOST DIFFICULT CHALLENGES YOU FACE. The abs are closest to the organs internal and external, and therefore it makes sense its going to be hard. With that said, if you have the desire, willpower, consistency, determination, and absolute heart,,,,,,,YOU WILL WIN IT OVER. Now, with water you cant get enough in my opinion, I drink PROPEL (and yes it as a form of fructose in it, but I limit it to the day time), and its about 30 calories a bottle (which i account for in my diet journal. Fruit drinks are in general bad. Any flavored non calorie water of your choice is fine, wont hurt you in my opinion. In addition even noncalorie soda (i drink it, I drink it because it helps me not to feel deprived,,,,,,which is another key element for success, and it has not hurt me one bit), any hoot there are some choices out there.

In a perfect world, it would be water water water. However, we do have to find a way to do the best we can, but not feel so deprived we go nuts (which is a huge factor in many people's failure).

The rare no calorie soda (while full of junk we don't need) is not going to kill you, and can be somewhat beneficial if it helps you stay on track. Note I said "rare", as in not all the time. Crystal Lite and the like are the same way.

Personally, I drink a lot of water, but can't stand it with food. I drink iced tea - decaf sweetened with splenda - for my meals. It provides enough taste to be good, but isn't artificial.

I think the best alternative, ingredients wise, to water would be Crystal Light. This is what I use when I need somethinhg with taste.

I'm probably the odd man out, but I typically drink more water than anything else. I have a few cups of coffee (black) in the morning and a cup of herbal tea in the evening, but throughout the day, it's water.

That said, I do like the occasional fruit juice, but the only one I've found that I really like is the pomagranite juice (Naked brand). It says is 100% juice with *nothing* else.

SO...any opinions out there on the Naked juices? Are they okay (in moderation) even though there's a bit of sugar, it appears to be all natural from the fruit.

I personally, would not suggest Crystal Light. Go for some type of tea, green, white, even black would be fine. A 100% fruit juice is completely fine as well.

Like everything els, regardless of what it is, moderation is key.

Thanks for all the advice, I'm definitely gonna try and stick it through with the water. But I'm wondering, you say the *rare* no calorie soda. About how rare would you say rare is? One a day, a week, a month? I'm a real soda pop addict and I've been weening myself off. I drink maybe one can of soda pop a day, although lately I've been skipping days- no pop at all. Considering how much I drank it before, I consider it real progress.

I agree plain water is the optimum, choice when we are talking fluids. However, drinking Crystal Lite (sugar free) is fine to drink. I like it too, and drink this during workouts all the time. It will not hurt you, it contains about 5cals per serving size versus 0 in water, so it doesnt hit the caloric equation that hard.

It contains aspartame...

Yes, I know it does. Its the better choice than pouring refined sugar in my veins. I also use Splenda alternative "water based" drinks from time to time, and use this to replace sugar for whole wheat cereal, etc.

Can I ask a question?

What bad effects does the ingredients in Crystal Lite have on weight gain (if this is the goal) or weight loss (if this is the goal). I have read some articles on Splenda, and other artifical sweetners--on the effects on the body as a whole, and how the body supposedly processes this stuff, but I dont think its detremental to either goal in reletive terminology.

So, Can I respectfully ask the point? Water is the real issue, and drinking crystal Lite does provide water (I used the powder), though water in pure form is better I believe.
