Want To Lose Weight

Please help me. I can’t stop eating so much its like I’m always hungry. I even go to gym but even then I’m gaining weight!!!
 
There is nothing bad about eating. What it comes down to is WHAT you are eating and how MUCH you are eating. My guess is you have an issue with quality of choices and also portion control. You should learn how to eat with less calorific values. May refer the for help.

I go through the same feelings and problem as you.. These days, if I think about snacking on something, I drink a bottle of water or chew on gum.. It helps because it's just a need of wanting to much on something!

You can and WILL lose weight!! I'm starting today, and have been meaning to do it for a while now. The forums should help!!

I agree with the others.

To me, the body has an internal balance needle. (just like a smoker has certain signals on when to "light up" a smoke). Internal triggers especially if one has been the same body weight for many consecutive years. As one exercises more the more, the body wants to remain at its "most comfortable" weight. Thus, its internal trigger tells the mind to eat. Exercise, then eat. Exercise, then eat. (sounds like a good trigger pattern to me). If wondering, triggers do allow one's body to remain at its most comfortable weight feeling. Just like triggers force smokers to keep smoking as well.

As mentioned above, do allow the body to eat except have "low carb" veggies instead. For me, I use raw celery or carrots. I've even been known to chew on onions. Thus, allowing the body to eat but its getting less calories then before. I also drink lots of water to fight the odd "binge eating" moments as well. Chewing sugarless gum helps fight the inner triggers as well. Over time, the inner voice (sort of speaking) becomes less and less demanding. And over time, the inner voice stops asking for more food - because it knows it won't get any. Especially if you go from low calorie veggies to gum to nothing at all - like I did (during 12 month period). Inner triggers are always hard to fight. Do try to win "each moment" every day as well. Over time, you will win. But it does take time and "persistance".

If you really want to lose weight so, control your eating. Calorie calculator is really helpful to you for less calories food choices. Don't eat junk food also.

You just have to replace bad habits with good habits. If you really commit to it for a couple of weeks then new, better habits will take over.
 
Some of the responses are great, others are just bad. Counting calories is mundane, boring and usually results in failure. I am a personal trainer who used to be 300 lbs. I have lost over 80 and have kept it off for over a decade. I tried every "diet" known to man. Dont focus on calories, focus on healthy foods. Avoid all white flour, processed foods, high fat foods and foods weighed down in sugar. These types of foods never fill you up, wreak havoc on your blood sugar and cause you to kick out insulin, which is a fat storing hormone. Keep all the junk out of your home, keep veggies on stock so when you get these urges, you can eat a ton of veggies until your full. Journal. Write down what your eating, dont worry about calories, just write down what your eating. Journal your feelings. Being overweight and a food addict is no different than an alcoholic. You are overeating for a reason, find out why and you will stop overeating. Get going on good exercise program, foucs on healthy nutrition and get good support.

You might not have been "counting" your calories, but you wouldn't have lost that weight unless your net caloric intake was greatly reduced. Sure, calorie counting can get a little boring, but it's an excellent way to help yourself get on track and lose weight.

Your telling him that calorie counting resluts in failure, but then you're telling him to focus on eating healhty foods? Healthy foods are healthy because they don't have as many useless calories as junk foods do.

So, which is it? Calories don't matter or calories do matter?

The answer: Calories DO matter.

westerblind: Keep track of your calories and what you eat. Also, exercise routinely. You need to burn more calories than you eat. This will help you lose weight.

Journal. Write down what your eating, dont worry about calories, just write down what your eating. Journal your feelings. Being overweight and a food addict is no different than an alcoholic. You are overeating for a reason, find out why and you will stop overeating. Get going on good exercise program, foucs on healthy nutrition and get good support.

If you think that counting your calories is tedious, then what exactly is keeping a journal and keeping track of your feelings? It's the same exact thing.
 
Chef your entitled to your opinion. Everything doesnt work for everybody. Counting calories for me and the majority of my clients set them up for failure. Believe it or not, a lot of people out there feel this way. I have my people focus on nutritious foods as opposed to what they normally ate, processed foods, high fat, high sugar snacks. So do what works for you, but as far as losing weight there is no "one size fits all"
 
Dont focus on calories, focus on healthy foods.
Unless a person gets a handle on what a portion size is- healthy foods is meaningless -i got to almost 400lbs eating nothing but healthy foods...

Portion sizes and only portion sizes and re-educating a person what what get results

You do realize your contradicting yourself, right?

You say that counting calories isn't helpful, but you have your clients focus on eating nutritious foods and not processed foods, high fat foods or sugar snacks. All of those things are usually pretty high in calories, which is why you don't want them eating such foods.

So, although you may not be telling your clients to keep a chart as to exactly how many calories they are eating every day, you are still telling your clients to cut their calories by informing them to eat healthier foods.

but i agree with you!! calorie counting is very very boring!! i'd sooner watch paint dry...& anyway its not just about how many calories...but how much fat...& not just about fat but how much 'bad' fat ie saturated & even more importantly how much hydrogenated fat or hydrogenated vegetable oil!! as i'm sure you'll know ironically it’s the processing of pure vegetable oils – a good source of heart-friendly unsaturates – that creates harmful trans fats!! The resulting product is a more solid fat which goes on to be used as an ingredient in many processed foods...such as cakes, biscuits, margarines, takeaways, pastry, pies and fried foods...its not exactly rocket science is it?? we all know that these are the foods you should be eating less of anyway if you want to lose weight!!

i'm about to put some filling, healthy recipes that i've used over the last couple of weeks in my diary...as for how many calories/carbs haven't a clue!! but i'm losing weight & not going hungry so far so good...not forgetting sugar free gum/fruit & water...oh & porridge...love it!! comforting & filling & healthy!!

eat less/exercise more...if i lose more weight do you think i can market it?? LOL

i'm just eating less empty calorie laden junk food (ie nutritionally empty) such as bread/crisps/chocolate/cheese...notice i said eating less but not totally banning...or else i'd crave them & moving my butt more. started off dog walks...now have some dance workout dvds winging their way to me too. would love to join a gym but as a single parent carer of a child with autism...its finding the bloody time!!!

to the original poster not sure how bad your urge to overeat is but i left quite a long post about a programme i watched last week, about overeating, on the EEE ***Emotional Eaters Eliminating Club*** thread in the club section of diet & motivation.

Chef, I didnt contradict myself. I am assuming that based on your handle you are a chef. I have been a trainer for a long time. I never said in any of my post' that the amount of calories one consumes is not important. It is, but to get someone to write down day in and day out how many calories they consume is difficult. So like I said, I have them focus on very nutritious foods that fill them up. If you can calorie count more power to you. Knowing how many calories your consuming is also helpful. But the compliance rate is poor. Most of the people I work with stop after a couple weeks. I also know that there is more to weight gain then putting food in your mouth, its mental and emotional. That is also why I have my clients journal when they want to overeat. They begin to recognize a pattern and can start to make better choices. Good luck to the original poster. This is another point where you contradict yourself. You think that taking the time to write down how many calories you consume in a day is difficult, but then you say this...

So, writing down what foods you are eating and your feelings at the time is A-OK, but writing down how many calories are in said food is difficult? Is that extra 15 seconds really that painstakingly hard?

Counting calories = Difficult, waste of time
Keeping a journal of the foods you eat and your feelings = YEAH!!!

Also, the compliance rate is poor? What does that have to do with anything? And, I'm willing to bet that the compliance rate is poor because you, the teacher, don't really care about counting calories. So, your clients, the students, aren't going to care either.

There's a thread that was started recently about a study involving calories and it's effect on weight loss. The study showed that it wasn't about what you were eating, it was how much. Basically, the study proved that calorie counting is an extremely effective way to help someone lose weight.

Though eating is not a bad habit just be curious about what you need try avoiding junk food like any fast food, pizza's and all. Even get a good diet plan so that you burn out your daily calories to loosen your weight quickly and grasp a good shaped body :)
