Want to bulk up, but no time. Advice welcomed.

Hi there guys,

After some advice if you'd all be so kind, I'm 19, about 6'1" and at last weigh in about 11 stone. I have a very lanky figure, tall and thin with rather long and thin arms. I'd like to bulk up a bit and get some mass to my arms and useable strength as well as working on abs and shoulder/back muscles. In honesty my biggest problem is probably my lack of motivation or staying power. I seem to go through phases of "Yeah, I'm going to work out and actually do it this time.." for about a week before giving up. I'm also rather self conscious at gyms, I don't like to use the machines or lift wights in front of other people. So when I do feel like doing it, I'm confined to my less than ideal bedroom with just enough room for my bed and a chest of drawers. My workout consists of dumbbell workouts; I use a dumbbell with 10KG on it and do 3x10 lifting from shoulder height to above head straight up, 3x10 bicep curls, 3x10 hammer curls and 3x10 two arm triceps extensions. Needless to say I have seen zero benefit from this so far (or as far as I can make out). My other problem is that I currently attend college 3 days a week and work full time as a cinema projectionist around that. This means a normal day for me can mean getting up for college at 8am, leaving college at 4.30pm and then working 5pm-11pm/12am only to start again the next day. Most weekends I work all day. In turn this means I hardly eat enough as it is, let alone enough to support a workout. I very rarely eat breakfast, lunch is normally a sandwich bought from a store and dinner is normally my main meal for the day.

So really I'm looking for any advice you can offer for a workout plan that would benefit me with an idea of time slots and if at all possible nutrition advice.

Thanks for reading this rather large post and thanks in advance for any advice!

I think you need to prioritise. I can understand that you might be quite exhausted once you get home from and long hard day. But you have identified that you don't eat enough, and that is one of the main problems IMO. Spending another hour once you get home to lazily cook up some chicken breast and boil some rice and broccoli up for the next day will extremely beneficial. And also, you may want to think about purchasing a protein supplement, in case you are in a huge rush, you just grab your protein shaker fill it with powder and be on your merry old way. Rectify your diet, make sure your eating enough to build muscle and muscle will be built.

Hi there, sorry for slow reply been busy! I see where you're coming from, I have looked into protein supplements but there are so many out there I have no real idea what I need to benefit me.. What's an ideal amount of meals to be eating or even a suggested daily amount of protein/carbs etc? I would be buying from myprotein.com/uk should I just be getting a whey protein, or should I get some bars and meal replacements as well? Also does the routine I'm doing look like it will do any good or should I change it to be more beneficial? I apologise for the sheer amount of questions but I am a total beginner to this! Thanks for your advice and help so far!
