Want some eyes on my exercise regime

Hiya,
I have a trainer putting together an exercise plan for me every 4 weeks but she's away (in another country) and I wanted to check if the changes I made were ok or if I'm just waisting my time... My main goal is to lose wight and get fitter.

My trainer has set me two workouts (A&B) with weights, 7 groups. Sarted with 3 sets of 15 reps and now, after 12 days, I have increased the weight so it's 3 sets of 12 reps.
Because I only have around 45min/1hr at the gym and I need to lose weight, the plan is:
one set of each group followed by 7min of cardio x3 (does that make sense?)


What I'm doing, to try to maximize my efforts is on mondays, wednesdays and fridays (on one week will be with workout A and the next will be with workout B):
instead of doing 7 minutes of constant speed cardio, I'm doing 7 minutes of 20sec running, 20sec resting. By the end of the 7min my heart rate is around 175 (I'm 33 and pretty heavy).
plus
after the last set of cardio, I rest 1 min and do another 4 min of 20sec running 10 sec rest (by the end my HR is around 188 and I'm ready to pass out).
Then I walk another 2 minutes until my HR is 140/135

On Tuesdays and Thursdays I'm doing the 3 sets of 7 min of cardio on the cross trainer trying to keep my HR at around 135/140. But do an extra 7 minutes at the end.

I think my question is: Is this going to work or am I just battering myself for not that much extra gain?
