I am a very busy girl. I am a full time student and I also work way more than I should. I cannot justify spending the money to join a gym when I have no time to go anyway. I have been a runner off and on, but with my schedule these days, I just can't bring myself to do it. Mornings have always been rough for me, I purposely schedule my classes early because I know I wouldn't get my butt out of bed if I didn't have a reason to. As for running in the evening, well, let's just say that my current neighborhood looses some of it's charm at night and running down mostly empty streets by myself in the dark is just not an option for jumpy me. Now I do get exercise, I am a New Yorker. I walk a TON, my calves and thighs are awesome, but it's the rest of my body that could use some work. I am not happy with the shape of my body as it is right now, so I need to start doing more than just relying on the exercise I get from just living life. I also know how great it can feel to be in shape and I want that feeling back!
I generally eat fairly well. Lots of fruit and veggies, whole grain breads and cereals, low fat dairy products, and so on. The only thing I feel I need to change in that department right now is cutting back on the indulgences of sweets that happen way more than they should.
The past week or so, I have done from 30 minutes to an hour of exercise with a video when I have arrived home for the evening. It's been a great way of winding down for the evening before I get on with the nightly routine of studying and preparing and other such things. It's also a great way to relieve some stress after a long day and a long trek home during rush hour. I have been rotating between a body sculpting yoga video and a pilates for weight loss video, both of which I like a lot. I also picked up a New York City Ballet workout video when I was out yesterday (Sarah Jessica Parker leads. I follow.). I tried it for the first time tonight and found it to be quite challenging, but a lot of fun. I like that it has a very artsy feel to it.
What I am really hoping to do is find an enjoyable way to exercise that I can fit into my crazy life. I am also looking to relieve stress in a way that doesn't involve cupcakes and cinnamon dolce lattes with whipped cream. Hopefully writing this journal and interacting with other people in similar situations will be a good incentive to keep at it.
