Ive been walking 50 minutes 4 to 5 days a week (fast pace) total of 3 miles each time for 5 weeks now and im getting very discouraged because i have not lost a pound!!! what am I doing wrong??? Im also watching my diet nothing to eat after dinner. Is it a matter of my metabolism kicking in? I quit smoking 6 months ago and heard that your metabolism slows down when you quit. what can I do to boost it? any suggestions?? I only need to lose about 10-15 pounds

First of all, walking at a brisk pace for 1 hour may only burn just under 300 calories. To lose 1 pound of fat ( in theory ) you have to lose 3,500 calories. If you walk 5 days in 1 week, that is 5 X 300 = 1,500 calories .

Over 5 weeks that is 5 X 1,500 = 7,500 calories...or just over 2 lbs. in 5 weeks.

Why it isn't showing up on your scale is any one's guess - could be your diet or something else.

One easy answer is to go 7 days a week....your burn more calories in a full week. Another is to go for longer than 50 minutes...again more duration of walking burns more calories.

Also, you could add intensity. One way to do that is to to do intervals. After about 5 minutes of walking pick up your walk pace so that you get slightly winded and slightly out of breath. Do this " hard " wined interval for as long as you can , which may be anywhere from 10 - 60 seconds...whatever you can handle. After 10 - 60 seconds go back down to your normal pace for 2 - 4+ minutes till you get most of your breath back.
