walking,bike,or both?

Hi my friends, I did a lot of exercise when young, (basketball and volleyball), now Iam 51 and overweight, I need to get rid of about 50 pounds. What do you think of this daily routine?
-walking 30 minutes (not brisk walking, just walking)
-static bike, 15 minutes.
-elliptic bike 15 minutes.
Thanks for your time.

A good start. But have you fixed your diet?

That will satisfy the recommendations for a healthy heart, but as mentioned, you need to eat less than you burn to lose those 50 pounds.

Well, I try not to overeat, have the tendency toe at too much bread, and drink sodas (Coca-Cola), it is difficult for me not to drink 600 ml of coke a day. I decided to drink diet coke, instead of the classic one. Anyway thanks for your advice.

The aerobic activity you mentioned is a good start but as g8r80 mentioned, a diet is crucial if you want to shed some extra pounds. I lost about 55 pounds rather quickly because I realized I needed to make drastic changes in my diet if I ever wanted to see results. I became vegetarian for a short period of time while still eating fish in order to get protein in my diet while still avoiding red meats. I also cut my calorie intake in half to around 1500 calories a day in addition to running and biking. In terms of soda, any amount of soda is a bad amount. You'll find that even with diet sodas, while adding a negligible amount of calories, will zapp you of energy because of the many chemicals and additives that go into those drinks. As for a replacement to soda, you can never go wrong with good, clean water. Go with foods that are low in calorie and fat while high in complex carbs and protein because those nutrients will fill you up the most while still being lower in calories than fat (fat= 9 k/cal per gram, protein/carbs= 4 k/cal per gram.) Make sure to include fatty fish like salmon or tuna into your diet because these fish are high in omega 3 fats, a fat commonly ignored in American diets but an absolutely necessary fat nonetheless.

You don't have to make changes quite as drastic as the ones I've listed above but it will take a lot of determination if you want to fulfill your weight loss goal. Don't be afraid to push yourself on the bike despite your age. After all nobody is too old to bike.

Losing weight isn't everything. I think you've devised a fine plan, maybe even a little too ambitious. The big thing is to actually do something and to keep it up the rest of your life, no matter how little it is. Don't push yourself too far, else the body-mind may say at some point, no, I'm not going to do this any more. Take it slow.
