Vomitting after ab workout....

Just wondering if anyone has ever experienced this after working their abs. The last three times that I have worked my abdominals I have literally had to get up off the floor and head to the bathroom and get sick. Once I'm done I am able to return and continue working my abs and then work my arms.

I have noticed that it is only after certain ab exercises that this occurs, i.e.,
slow deep crunches w/knees bent on stability ball and cross over crunches. I usually do three sets of each w/15-20 reps.

Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions. Twice it has occurred in the morning and once in the late afternoon.

Help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I'd stop doing whatever made me vomit

Sounds like your body is rejecting that exercise or the net effect of it.

When this has occurred in the morning I had an empty stomach, however on Monday it was 5:30 in the afternoon and I had eaten during the day with my last afternoon snack at 3:30. I usually do my abs as a pre-warm up before doing arms and back.

Any ideas??? I hate to try and eat too much before I try it again...the dry heaves sucked enough.

Open to any suggestions at this point. By the way, this afternoon is another weight training day so I am trying to prepare myself.

Thanks.

Your are doing too much currently for your body to handle. Is this routine of yours new? Ease into it. Stay hydrated and concentrate on your breathing.

My normal routine is running 5-6 miles six days a week (usually early mornings). 3 days a week I work on strength training and this is when I incorporate my ab workout. I really don't think that I am focusing on that particular area that much. I have been doing this routine for the last 6 months, but have been incorporating different ab exercises the last few weeks hoping for better results.

I am 45 yoa, 5'10 and 140 lbs. This should be a no-brainer.

Perhaps you're doing the exercises wrong or doing too many reps. Whatever the case, I think you should just drop it entirely.

You are just pushing your body's physical limit. Let me guess but you are returning back to working out again after a long break? I do have to give you credit for keep working out after puking; either tough or crazy or little both.

Maker sure to keep hydrated and rinse your teeth out after vomiting. The stomach acid is horrible for your throat and teeth so carry some mouth wash and rinse after you do, plus your breath won't smell as bad. IF this persist for more than 10 days, ease off a bit. If it continues, see a doctor.

don't do abs until after you do your compound exercises followed by single joint exercises. You will have more energy to perform your compound exercises and single joint exercises if you put your core work at the end.

Also - do you take any energy drinks (not the ones for thirst..but the ones that fill you up for a little bit) or protein bars or whatever? It is not good to exercise on an empty stomach.

water for the belly

Hey Gimpy,
I would suggest not working on abs for at least an hour after I eat. Also, make sure you are drinking plenty of water. The body needs 3 quarts of water a day. One day I went jogging without drinking enough water and I cramped up. That's because the water keeps you hydrated, which also effects your muscles and joints. From what you have said, I think water is the key. If you drink plenty of water and wait, and you are still having abdominal pain that bad, I would suggest a different ab workout.

Hope this helps!
