what kind of vitamins and or supplements are you all taking at this point if any?

I am taking One a day weight smart, Fiber, and biotin

Just curious if others are suggested and if so what and what quantaties does the body need. I know you can get a good bit of your vitamins from foods and what not, but when dieting, sometimes women lack the proper nutrients and some trainers tell you to take vitamins.

Just curious!!! Thanks for the input!!

I take a multivitamin formulated for women; it's the generic type that they sell at Tom Thumb, which for some unfathomable reason says "Safeway" (a different supermarket chain) on it.

Getting the appropriate amount of vitamins thru food really isn't that difficult -- especially fiber - why are you taking a fiber supplement?

I site I've posted so many times over the past few years that I should almost ban myself for spamming it - is The World's Healthiest Foods - keep track of your nutrients in an online program -then see where you're coming up short vitamin wise and check the site and tweak your diet to include foods that contain more of that specific nutrient..

Well if you must know:

Ever since i was a kid i have a very long amount of time between bowel movements and so my doctor suggested i take more fiber than i already get. I eat alot of broccoli and what not so its not so much that i am a terrible eater.... i just need MORE.

5-6 days between bowel movements is not exactly healthy on a regular basis you know?

That is why i take fiber supplements

From what I've learned the ability for a vitamin to break down in the body is a large factor in determining it's effectiveness. A good way to test the solubility of a vitamin is to place it in vinegar and see how long (or in some cases..IF) the supplement breaks down.

Currently, I'm taking a pharmaceutical-grade multi-vitamin and a multi-mineral. I also take a supplement that combines coq10 and omega 3 fish oils.

Currently I am taking a 1000 IU + 600 IU Vitamin D (for it's cancer preventing power). 10,000 IU of Vitamin A, and a multi vitamin one-a-day for men. Which is where the extra 600 IU of Vitamin D comes from.

None of this is for weight loss though, but more for general health.
:conehead:

I take:

Calcium (I'm on depo which can leach calcium)
Glucosamine and chondroitin (it seems to help knee pain - I have flat feet - I don't know if it really helps or is placebo, but either way I'm still gonna take it)
Multi-vitamin (mostly for the B12 content - I'm a vegetarian and spaz about these things sometimes)

I don't take any supplements, though with my highly processed diet I probably should. I know I have some around here somewhere, Women's One A Day, I think.

I used to take a multivitamin, but then became scared because of different things I read about them increasing mortality rates and at one point the Women's One a Day multivitamins were pulled off the shelves for having extremely high levels of lead. No one really knows the long term effects of taking combination vitamins.

Right now I take two 600 mg pills of calcium at the request of my doctor because the birth control method that I use (depo-provera), accelerates bone density loss.

And at the request of her husband. I dont want her breaking her hip when she is 30.

I take Vitamin C, E and zinc everyday! It has become a routine for me to consume them or else I will feel uneasy lol :p

I take 3-a-day multivitamin for active women. I took one-a-day's, but the nausea was overwhelming. I find the nausea with 3-a-days is still present, but much more tolerable.

I would also recommend against one-a-days for another reason. In my nutritional science classes, I've learned that your body CANNOT ABSORB the RDA of each vitamin in one sitting. It absorbs as much as it can, and the rest is literally flushed down the toilet. That's another reason I stick with 3-a-days. They're in small enough doses that my body takes in everything, and I get my money's worth.

I just take fish oils

I used to take multi-vitamin but I really just don't like the idea of it so I stopped
