Sport Vitamins and Suppliments?

Sport Fitness
I see nothing wrong with taking vitamins or supplements so long as they are "good". Some supplements are just plain bad.

Flax is a good supplement that I take at times. I've cut back since I was able to incorporate more of it into my menu though. I also occasionally take acidophilus when I need to take an antibiotic medicine (rarely).

For the past few years, I have not taken any vitamins or supplements and I have not been sick once. Ok, one time I had a tiny cold :p

I changed my diet so that it included a lot of fresh and organic foods. I also went vegetarian. I'm not saying it's for everyone, but if you're going to eat meat you have to take necessary precautions against the hormones and probiotics used on the animals.

One time I went to a holistic drug store and they gave me a complete break down of what minerals I need, what vitamins I am lacking, etc. Then they make recommendations on products that will "balance" you out.

Perhaps you can try that. For me, it really came down to eating fresh, organic foods whenever possible. Just get different opinions. Talk with a doctor, talk with a nutritionist, talk with a herbalist, talk with a naturopath, etc.

As a nutritionist I can tell you that most vitamins do not get absorbed into the body and they are wasted. However, a good multi-vitamin won't hurt anyone.

vitamins and minerals

As far as a good multivitamin goes, One-a-Day Womens' is the way to go. I am minoring in nutrition and have heard this over and over again.

Also--get PLENTY OF CALCIUM! Most people don't realize that calcium is used for more than just bone structure; it's most important task is helping our muscles contract. Your bones will take as much calcium as they can, sometimes leaving your muscles lacking. By stocking up on the mineral, you help your muscles be able to perform at their best.

But we cannot absorb calcium without vitamin D I believe it is. So be sure you get vitamin D or else the calcium is literally being pi$$ed away.

Also, soda and coffee rob the body of additional calcium. So if you take calcium and drink coffee/soda... you're wasting your money.

This is why I recommend you eat a variety of whole, living foods... no need to worry about this technical stuff :)
