Sport Vitamin C BAD or GOOD for body Fat % loss

I'll got this quote from a site, just wondering if it's true.

Side Effects Return to top

Vitamin C toxicity is very rare, because the body cannot store the vitamin. However, amounts greater than 2,000 mg/day are not recommended because such high doses can lead to stomach upset and diarrhea.

Too little vitamin C can lead to signs and symptoms of deficiency, including:

* Dry and splitting hair
* Gingivitis (inflammation of the gums)
* Bleeding gums
* Rough, dry, scaly skin
* Decreased wound-healing rate
* Easy bruising
* Nosebleeds
* Weakened tooth enamel
* Swollen and painful joints
* Anemia
* Decreased ability to fight infection
* Possible weight gain because of slowed metabolism

A severe form of vitamin C deficiency is known as scurvy, which mainly affects older, malnourished adults.

Recommendations Return to top

The best way to get the daily requirement of essential vitamins, including vitamin C, is to eat a balanced diet that contains a variety of foods from the food guide pyramid.

Vitamin C should be consumed every day because it is not fat-soluble and, therefore, cannot be stored for later use.
Should I be taking Vitamin C? I don't think I get a lot of Vitamin C in my body from the foods I'm eating...do you thing taking it once per day will actually help keep my metabolism normal + increase it slightly?

In answer to your heading, which is pretty easy, YES.

Usually if your have drinks such as orange juice or fruit juice they almost meet the whole recommended daily intake and even exceed it. If your not getting enough then yes you should be adressing the situation by inceasing it to at least the recommened.

I only have one fresh Orange per day, don't like juices...they're full of sugar and give me massive amounts of mucus.

2000 mg per day is a lot of vitamin C. 60mg is 100% DV (according to my multi) which means that 2000mg is 3333% of what you should be taking, which is A LOT. i don't think you need to be taking vitamin C pills on by themselves. you might as well just take a multi and you will get the full 100% DV (or more), or a glass or 2 of OJ a day

You can take as much vitamin C as you want... There is nothing but benefits to taking increased amounts of vitamin C.

I take 4,000mg every 3-4 hours.

Ascorbic acid promotes healing of wounds, protects body from bacterial infection, allergens, and other pollutants.

Thats only a temporary affect. So long as you let your body become used to doing such amounts its perfectly fine. As for it being excreted this is true. Hence why and i quote "take it every 3-4 hours". As this is about the amount of time it takes for it to run its course through the body. there is no documented "cut off" point at which the body stops reaping benefit either.

Basically so long as you gradually increase the dosage your fine. Except for pregnant woman. Its been documented that the internal baby becomes "used" to this amount of C as well and when born if it does not continue to receive the high amount it got it did while it was on the "inside" it can become temporarily sick.

It seems hardly likely that taking high doses of vitamin C (ascorbic acid) can cause thickening or hardening of the arteries since so many people have taken high doses for a long time. Yet researchers from the University of California reported just that on March 2, 2000. People who took 500 mgs of ascorbic acid had a 2.5 times faster progression of thickening of the carotid artery (hardening of the arteries) than people who took no supplement.

This study was not a clinical study where subjects are divided into those taking ascorbic acid and those taking a placebo. This was an epidemiological study which means patient records were examined and this finding popped up. There might well have been other confounding factors that would explain the artery-thickening finding.

I have seen that and already reviewed it. And i laughed at it:).
