i know olive oil is beneficial, but what about vegetable oil? on the bottle it says "no cholesterol or trans fats". i normally don't use vegetable oil. i've always used olive oil, but recently bought it for a recipe. i'm really curious to know if it's good or bad to cook with. thanks!:food:

Cooking oil - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
take a look at the section on cooking tolerance

k, just read the label a little more and the only ingredient listed on this so called vegetable oil is "soybean oil". and then says no trans fats or cholestorol. doesn't contain hydrogenated oils either. so how's soybean oil for ya?

its not terrible, but its not the best.

ideally, use olive oil...either virgin or extra virgin so long as it holds up to what you're doing with it.
peanut oil has a higher smoking point, so it works better for things like stir-fry.

of course, ideally you'll use Pam or another non-stick cooking spray, and either no oil or just a touch (cuz face it, Pam is no guarantee that it won't stick).

you might want to get a little spray bottle so you can spritz oil when you need it. coconut oil can also be used sparingly, but its semi-solid at room temperature so it depends on how you need to use it. there's sever Precision Nutrition recipes that call for coconut oil.

great! thank you very much for your detailed response. we will only be using the "soybean" (vegetable oil) once in a long while. it's just for one recipe but for the most part i do use extra virgin olive oil and pam.

Or you could just not use oil, and consume almonds + fish oil in the evenings. Baking things is way more efficient, anyway. Silicon bakeware. :luxlove:

Pam (main ingredient is canola oil) will do in a pinch, though. Tastes horrendous, imo, but some people like it.

Depends on the Pam or simliar product. Many of them contain hydrogenated oils. You have to read the labels closely.

I say just use bacon grease.:costumed4:

I was referring to original pam, which afaik, is canola oil, and does not contain any hydrogenates (<--- I just invented a noun :D).
