Variation in sets and reps

Had an idea-
Instead of doing 8x3 for ~10 weeks, then switching to something higher for hypertrophy like 3x12 for squats, i was thinking it would make sense to mix them both into the same training period.

For example, week 1 will be 8x3.
week 2 will be 3x12
week 3 8x3 +5lbs
week 4 3x12 +5lbs
ect

i want to add in some higher rep work just to increase muscle mass SO i can get stronger. really, my main goal is strength. i want to throw in variation, and i am wondering if this is a good idea.

do you think fitting both 8x3 and 3x12 into the same training period is smart, or should i give them both their own 6-12 week training block? thankyou.

Drop the hypertrophy work if you're serious about increasing your strength. If you want some variety try Jim Wendlers 5-3-1.
