Naw, Tom, it's not that. It's just, I've never really cared about societal conventions re: holidays/"appropriate times for celebration". I think I've ignored probably 2 out of 3 Valentine's Days since I started dating (at 11 years old XD, yeah I'm counting those years lol), but never really gotten into any trouble for it. I try to just make an effort most days of the year.
I mean, what's so great about having one fixed day, when you could have say, 30 of them, occurring randomly throughout the year? I try to tailor my good behavior to when it will have more of an impact. If I notice she's been having a ****ty week or last couple of days, well, suddenly it's "Valentine's Day". Don't care for the notion of
having to do it, though. Romance is not an obligation.
I'm the same way with Birthdays and wedding stuff. I got 'yelled at' by a whole lot of people for blowing off my best friend's engagement party a couple months ago, but the thing is, right before that I did something really cool for him. And did he make an issue of it? No. Not saying that makes it okay, per se, but rather that I don't know what the big deal is. Like, if I don't drop what I'm doing to go to his pre-occasion, then we're not tight? If I don't pull out stops on Valentine's Day, specifically, then I obviously don't care about my girl? Why should a bunch of random strangers get to decide when I do or don't meet some fictional standard of romance? I don't get it.
Sorry if I just killed the spirit of the thread. Apparently I can't resist answering a direct question.

No disrespect intended to anyone who celebrates, or even goes all out for, Valentine's Day. I think that's real nice. ****, I'm probably about to go scramble to put a little something together last minute, myself. I just like to be contrary.
