Unequal growth on both sides.

Hey guys,

I tried searching, but maybe I'm not using the right keywords. I have been lifting for a few months now. I'm left-handed, and my left pec and lats are smaller than my right.

When I lift, I realize that I don't feel the 'burn' on my left as much as the right. I've been paying close attention to my form, but am unsure of what else to focus on to let it feel that it's being worked equally on both sides.

Currently, I'm laying off the barbell and using the dumbbells instead. Do you think I should be doing some extra sets on the smaller side, even though the smaller side is the dominant side?

Am I doing something wrong, or will it eventually even out?

Thanks :)

I have read of this many times...I also have read that only 'you' will notice it!

Consider dumbbells.

I've been using the dumbbells for the past week or so rather than the barbell. Still, I don't get as much burn on my left compared to my right. The next day, right side has a more noticeable soreness compared to the other.

Perhaps I should try lowering the weight more.

Winky,

All people are asymmetrical to some degree. If you notice a significant strength/size difference, especially if that difference is growing (strong side getting even stronger than it already is, and weak side not catching up), I would go find someone who knows how to run you through a postural analysis and what to prescribe to correct it.

See if there are any EGOSCUE (Google it) trainers in your area. His methods have been of tremendous help to my clients, colleagues, and I.
