underarm sweating concern

I sweat loads under my arms, even when I'm just sitting around doing nothing. I found this anti perspirant that actually stops me from sweating, but im concerned that it's unhealthy for my body to stop sweating entirely under my arms, especially if thats what it wants to do naturally. It feels weird for me to workout/run and not sweat under my arms. I've heard that it's not a big deal you will just sweat it out on another part of your body but I'm not sure how believable that is. So can I wear this anti perspirant at all times and not be worried about it being unhealthy for my body?

before answering I have some Q's.

are u over weight?
is ur diet good?
how many layers do you usually wear?
is this indoors and outdoors?

Ive heard of this before and the problem was that this person was overweight and unfit. Therefore they had bad curculation. This ment that they felt cold even tho they were acctually in a hot room.

my doctor told me to use odorban, its available from the pharmacy and is very effective

it doesnt stop sweating altogether, but just prevents excess moisture.

you apply everynight for a few days, then once a week from then on, id definitely recommend it.

I'm not overweight, diet is good, always wear one layer, and this is ANYWHERE. I go to an ice skating rink and sweat. I've been using this stuff called B Drier and it's been working pretty good, but my concern is that I just want to know if it's unhealthy to block so much sweat that my body naturally wants to get rid of.

In that case im stumped. go to ur doc.

sweat is not somthing ur body is trying to get rid of. It does it when its hot and want to cool down. Your sweat glands must be over sensitive and they are just kicking in when they dont need to. The doc may be able to give you a medical alternative. In the mean time, go for the talc.
Antipersparant is just talc powder in deoderant. so buy some talc powder and keep slapping it on to see if it helps.

I couldn't do the talk powder...cuz that is what makes those marks in the armpit of your shirts...and give you deodorant staings and stuff. I hate that cuz I wear a lot of black. Have you tried Michum or Sure? Those work really well...and the mitchum doesn't stain your clothing nearly as much as most others do.

I've actually heard a bit about this debate when I was in nursing classes. From what I gather it is not especialy healthy for you not to sweat but not because of the actual sweat factor but believe or not our skin actually takes needs air for regeneration, it's a whole oxygen thing and the lesson was years ago so I don't dare try to explain the logistics or I'll sound like an idiot. Basically if your skin can't breath it stands the chance of becoming irritated and infected...the pores that sweat comes out of need to be open in order for it to breath. A really strong anti pers will obviously block these pores. If you haven't noticed any problems yet I wouldn't worry too much but if you start to feel tchy or go unusually red or flaky under your arms then you need to stop using the stuff.

Klipse,

I work for a plastic surgeon and they are now doing botox injections underarms to help this problem..
The treatment is usually good for like 6 months for most people w/ severe underarm sweating.. The effects will gradually wear off and you will know when you need it again.
You may also go to botox.com and read more there.

i agree with luvmydane.
I read this article about a young girl, average weight, who constantly sweat only not just under her arms. she couldnt even hold a hand without drenching that person with sweat. Finally she got the botox thing he mentioned, i believe, or some surgery. She said she still sweat but now it was normal.

if i can recommend a product that isn't botox

CVS carries a underarm product called CERTAIN-DRI. it's a roll on liquid you apply at night before sleep. i have used it now for over 8 years and it really works. you apply it once and see how it holds up over the days. if one day it starts to give out, shower and apply another layer.

(gotta shower before application, if not, it will itch).

just a thought :)

here is what it looks like

Would doing the Botox thing be completely safe? What happens when it's summer and you're supposed to sweat naturally to help cool your body down, are there any effects from that?

Its Safe... You will sweat everywhere else just the same... Just not the area where you have had the botox i.e, underarms. Its helped a lot of people..

Back from the dead...

Hi all,
My name is Ben and I have a strange sweating problem. I would say I sweat more than normal (but not by much) on any given day. BUT, I sweat profusely when it is cold outside! It seems that temperature changes are what makes me sweat most. It doesn't matter how many layers I am wearing, a little or a lot, I still sweat when I go from my warm house to my cold car in the morning only to have my car warm up then go back to the cold to catch the bus and back to warmth inside school.
I'm a college student and this is extremly embarasing. Does anyone have any ideas?
Also, it seems like when I switch deoderant/antiperspirants the problem diminishes or stops for a few days until my body gets used to the new deoderant.

Sounds like something you should talk to a doctor about. It could be a problem in your sympathtic nervous system and there are treatments.

This is the most plan language explanation I could find and is not an endorsement of this medical organization:

thank you for the help. i figured i should talk to my doctor just wanted to get a background on it.

do you think anything would help in the meantime? like B Drier, Certain Dri, etc?

I also have Axillary hyperhidrosis(Underarm Sweating Problem)

If anyone else shares the same problem I suggest using Certain Dry or Drysol. If those do not work then the next step is Botox. I have tried both and neither work for me but this is a rare thing. I am one of the few people that these things do not work for. Now if you are like me the last step is surgery where they go through the chest and remove the sweat glands. But for me this is not an option because I do not have the kind of money and I'm not to comforatlbe with surgery -.-

Botox takes 10 days to start working but for me this was not the case but it might work for you.

On the 10th day of my sweating problem I noticed my sweating did go down a little but already on the 14th day it was back to normal. Botox is supposed to last 3-4 months.

If anyone else has the problem I have I know what you go through everyday.

For me its a horrible thing to have to deal with. Sometimes I wish I could just goto sleep and never wake up. My problem affects my grades and social life. In school I am so worried about if any1 notices my problem. I always wear sweatshirt but sometimes i go through them too. I wish i could just drop out of school and stay at home for the rest of my life. But I know i cant -.-
I know how it hurts inside to have to go through everyday with this problem. So don't sit around doing nothing, hating life. Go out and try to fix it.

And yes even if you are sitting around or freezing cold you still sweat alot.

No1 should think this is funny or gross,it is a serious matter and should not be made fun of. It's not like we can control it.

To people that dont have this problem and u see someone that does you should actually try to help them out not make fun of them. Because it hurts to have to go through life with this problem.

And yes everything is normal for me im not overweight im actuallt a little underweight because im 14 and at 98 pounds. Its not because ur fat or dont eat right that you sweat. Its just a medical problem that many people have but are to scared to talk about it. Trust me just go to your doctor, I have plenty of times but sadly i have yet to find a solution that works for me but to the rest of you gook luck ;p
