Ok, i know that these events happend like a month ago but i only just saw them...
Thoughts on TUF4...
I think it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that Matt Serra was gonna win the welterweights. I mean, right from the very beginning he was all over the TV screen in TUF4 and didn't really have the competition he should of. I have a feeling that this show was groomed on making Matt Serra a star and make him a legit contender for the new champ St. Pierre. I know that UFC is real and all that but that's just the way it seemed for me One question though - Why wasn't Robbie Lawler invited to be on the show? Is he contracted to pride or somewhere else? I know UFC gave him the can after he lost a couple fights, but since then he's been impressive losing once and winning four (i think). I think he would've been the perfect fit for "the comeback".
I thought Pete Sell would take the 185's but again, i was just basing this on how much time on TV he got (and he got the most of the middlewieghts). I remember his choke out of Phil Barnoni, but really Baroni sucks! Keep in mind i've been on and off with UFC and MMA the last couple years and only been a real big fan of UFC since TUF 3. I've only seen one pride event, which was absolutely ruthless but beyond that i havn't gone outside of UFC...yet
From what i've seen, the heavyweight and welterweight division are probably the least talent loaded division, so the title fight could go either way for the 185's although i was very suprised at how easily Rich Franklin was beaten, so i don't know really. I think GSP vs. Serra in February will be a total domination and predict that GSP will take this one in the first round and then Serra drops back down to 155 where he really should be. He's too small for 170 i feel...
UFC 65
I'm only gonna talk about the two main events here...
Sylvia vs. Monson
My god, i thought Sylvia vs. Arlovski was boring and this damn near matched it. The first 2 rounds consisted of monson trying to take down Sylvia and not being able to. From memory, round 3 was a little more exciting and round 4 was just one of the worst rounds i've ever seen in any UFC fight - NOTHING HAPPEND! They just stood there. I think the problem was that Sylvia didn't wanna get too close to avoid getting taken down by Monson and Monson just lost all confidence in trying to take down Sylvia so he didn't do so. By round 5 Monson was just gassed out and The maniac pretty much knew he had it so didn't feel the need to do anything too crazy. The boos at the end of this fight were well deserved and like Sylvia i too wanted Mir to win earlier. It'd be great to see Mir at his best again.
Hughes vs. GSP
WOW! complete domination by St. Pierre really. I had a feeling coming in that GSP would take this fight but not as easily as this! That's all there really is to say about this fight, i was very suprised and didn't expect this at all, after seeing so many fights matt huges has just dominated. I hear there's talk already going around that Huges vs. St. Pierre III is being planned for UFC 70 in April and it's goin to be in Montreal. That'd be something and like i said earlier, i expect GSP to beat Serra in February so i'm really looking forward to this already. Canadian crowds are much more energetic and excited and US crowds for pro wrestling events so i expect nothing less for a MMA event and add in the fact that it's GSP's hometown. They're just gonna go crazy for him!
Lookin' forward to UFC 66. But what a pussy though "he caught me in the eye" - he beat you fair and square buddy. I don't even wanna predict this one but if tito can't take chuck down then the iceman should take this one. Goes to the ground often enough and and it's Tito's for the taking. I dunno, it's just a really good match up. When's Joe Rogan back? I mean, i like coutoure but he just doesn't add the excitement to a fight that Rogan does.
MMA is easily the fastest growing sport in the world at the moment and UFC is just getting bigger and better by the day. I'm slowly finding myself drifting away from pro wrestling and becoming a fan of MMA above all else. I'm deffinately going to download some pride events off the net and get more educated on this awesome sport!
