Two questions that irritate me

I have 2 questions that have been buggin me for a while now and I'm not sure why I didn't think to post here.

The first is: WHY do my ears plug up when I do long distance stuff. It happens primarily during running, sometimes biking but it seems to happen when I'm most fatigued and starting to lose my breath/endurance in a longer race. I then can hear myself breathing and its SO irritating. I can make them UNplug momentarily but then they will plug again as I breathe.

Is this something anyone else experiences?

The second is after a long hard race or run why is my appetite totally absent? I'll do these long events or endurance training sessions and then I seriously have a very hard time eating the rest of the day. I drink and drink but the appetite just isn't there. If I do try and eat I get full quickly. I feel robbed! errrrr

I had this happen to me way back when during army runs. It turned out in my case to be a combination of allergies and wax build up in my ear canal. I Had the doctor irrigate it. Not only did it feel great afterward but the stuffy ears stopped during the runs.

I get the plugged ears and lack of appetite too. On my last century ride with FF in early March, I just couldn't eat anything after 70 miles, no matter how hard I tried.

I think these things happen because our bodies are allocating all the available resources to our muscles and these are the side effects.

never got the ear plug thing, but I could see how that would be irritating....

I get this alot. Whenever I workout hard, I loose my appetite. I will just not eat and listen to my body. Can't say if it is a bad thing to do, but I now if I try to eat I'll feel sick and that seems worse.....

Cheers,
Diane

oh, I answered the other questions you had and I had to hunt for those..hehhee

ears- me too. I learned not to hit my ear and try to pop it. I am all pumped up and can easily hit myself tooo hard- lol I do know this- by the time I mess with that ear for awhile and finally give up on it, I have another mile under my belt :) At le4ast I stopped replacing my MP3 player buds... it was getting expensive. ahhahahaa

- I think it is a susstained blood pressure effect. I have come to view it as "in the zone" I can hear my breathing, my strides are rolling nicely, and I look ou to th horizon..

Appetite- I think it is because both you and I, especially me, do not eat enough foot and our body getsw into that 'eating itself mode' and when it is eating itself, it doesn't need food. kinda like why masterbators are typically single. LOL!!! hahahhha ( anyhow, even on a Sunday with you- my irreverance is unfettered. ;) I force it to eat, and say"hey man, we are shrinking to0 fast as it is- stop it eating yourself dummy-- eat this!"

tho neither of my answers are clinical by any means.... "slow down or stop, is never the answer''' hhahahaha

p.s. Where was that thing drex put up that his dad told him about if this is sore or that is sore and all that. and Drex, did Dad find that info or write it from his own experience?

HAHA your post cracked me up.

Well as long as I'm not alone in these things I won't care as much. The ear thing, UGH it really is annoying but if I can view it like you do and realize that when the ears go it means i have been at it long enough and hard enough to go deaf. My ears shut off and I kind of go "inward" thats kind of cool.

I most certainly do not eat enough, thats for sure. I try, I do but I'm still out eaten by my FIVE year old! There is something wrong with that.

hehehe you get me on a puter in the loft at the dropzone like that, and anything can happen.

and I take full responsibility

I have the ears plug thing happen to me everytime right after I finish my circuit training routine. It never happens during, but always right after I finish. It usually only lasts about 5-10 minutes. I don't recall having this happen while running.

How about drinking some of sports drink or shake if you have no appitite when you come back from running. Maybe a mix of some maltodextrin, fine ground oats and whey protein to help you recover and refuel?

After a really long run, I get a itching for some grapes and strawberries... don't know why but I feel a heck of a lot better after eating it. Other than that, I can't eat anything for several hours.

As for the ear plug I wouldn't know. I'm pretty deaf, so it doesn't bother me. Are you listening to music on your run? Maybe the sweat is building up in your ear or something if you are listening to music.

"strenuous exercise, or a blow to the side of the head"

hahahahahahaha as if those two things are the same... ahhahahaha

that just read funny to me. hahahaha

so- would you like to go for a run now, or shall I hit you with a hammer? LOL!

maybe we get ourselves hot enough that the outer ear actually makes a sweat droplet and it falls into our ear like water? But hey, what do I know. I just sweat alot.
